Since its establishment in 1941, the Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Museum of Art has grown from a small university teaching collection into one of the foremost university art museums in the country. A preeminent teaching museum, the museum¿s internationally acclaimed collection, ranging from ancient gold jewelry and African masks to paintings by Claude Monet and Pablo Picasso, includes more than 45,000 objects representing nearly every art-producing culture throughout history. The Eskenazi Museum of Art has completed a $30 million renovation of its acclaimed I. M. Pei designed building. The newly renovated museum is an enhanced teaching resource for Indiana University and southern Indiana. Positioning the institution as a premier teaching museum requires breakthrough programming, experiences, and storytelling that advance its mission in powerful ways.

Guest Service Associates will lead by example as a great ambassador for the museum while maintaining a focus on providing excellent customer service with all visitors to ensure a positive experience. Their primary goal is to help all guests, clients, vendors, and museum employees to understand and comply with museum guidelines and polices in a manner that ensures an outstanding guest experience.

Department Specific Responsibilities

  • Works primarily in customer-facing roles, including posts in galleries, guest services desks, and exterior spaces per operational requirements of the department. 
  • Engages with every guest they encounter to ensure a positive and welcoming experience.
  • May work at an EMA Security monitoring station under direction from Security Panel Operators.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

EDUCATION

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)

WORK EXPERIENCE

Preferred

  • Some prior experience into related field

  • Outstanding customer service experience
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Coordinates well with all stakeholders in all settings
  • Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and communicate with a wide variety of individuals.

The role frequently requires the ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time. This position is very active and requires moving about the workspace and ascending/descending stairs or ladders. The role frequently move objects that weigh up to 50 pounds. The role requires the ability to position self to move at lower levels. The role requires the ability to detect items in proximity as well as far away; discern between colors; detect objects in peripheral space; discern items in detail; and to have good depth perception. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Bloomington, Indiana 

 $13.52 per hour

$14.00 per hour after 1100 hours worked

Position is capped at 29 hours per week.

Available to work shifts that are usually 7 hours (but occasionally are 5 or 9 hours in length) totaling 24-29 hours per week scheduled primarily during building and gallery hours: 

Fall and Spring Semesters: 

Building hours: Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm, Saturday 10:00am-5:00pm, and Sunday 12:00pm-5:00pm 

Gallery hours: M(closed) Tuesday-Friday 10:00am-5:00pm, Saturday 10:00am-5:00pm, and Sunday 12:00pm-5:00pm 

Summer: 

Building hours: Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm, Saturday and Sunday 12:00pm-5:00pm 

Gallery hours: Monday(closed) Tuesday- Sunday 12:00pm-5:00pm

There will be after hours events that will occasionally need to be staffed.  Schedule will vary week to week.  Must have availability thru 9-30-24.
