Position Qualifications - Responsibilities:

The Interdisciplinary Studies Department at Kennesaw State is accepting applications for part-time instructors or part time assistant/associate professors to teach interdisciplinary undergraduate courses in the area of Science, Technology, and Society. These courses are most often introductory level.

STS 1101, our general education course, examines the development and integration of science, technology, and society within a particular area of study. Recent offerings have focused on gender, medical ethics, science fiction, and health.

Part-time faculty are hired from the department’s pool of applicants on a semester-by-semester basis. Assignments to faculty in the pool are based on departmental needs and are for one or two courses per semester. Applicants may be asked to teach in various modalities (face-to-face, hybrid, online) and courses may be assigned at the Kennesaw or Marietta campus.

Required Education - Experience - Skills (Minimum Qualifications):

Master’s, PhD or other terminal degree, or its foreign equivalent is required.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 18 graduate level credit hours in an area related to Science, Technology, and Society, though relevant professional experience is also considered. Previous college level teaching experience is also ideal. Must be able to teach in an area of Science, Technology, and Society.

The Interdisciplinary Studies Department (ISD) houses seven programs: African and African Diaspora Studies, American Studies, Asian Studies, Gender and Women’s Studies, Latin American/Latino Studies, Native American Studies, Peace Studies, and Religious Studies.

Each program offers a minor, and the department also offers courses in Science, Technology, & Society, a B.A. in African and African Diaspora Studies, a B.A. in Asian Studies, and a Master’s in American Studies. In addition to academic programs, faculty are deeply involved in research and community outreach activities and organize several student-oriented conferences each year.
