Position Summary Information


Objective
The Physical Therapist Assistant Faculty/Instructor teaches Physical Therapist Assistant courses in the Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) Program as scheduled, following the course description, outline and syllabus established. The faculty/instructor will provide input for curriculum development, student advising, and participation in program and institutional development. In addition, PTA faculty/instructor may assist with coordination and supervision of the clinical training portion of the program.
Essential Duties
1. Teach assigned courses following the course syllabus and outline.
2. Prepare all necessary lecture and/or lab material, course syllabus including objectives and competencies, exams and lab practicals for courses taught utilizing instructional materials and methods appropriate for the subject matter.
3. Participate in supervision of student performance in the lab teaching area, to include evaluations and grading of course work that supports the course.
4. Have a thorough knowledge of physical therapy and related health fields and be able to present material well in a classroom/laboratory situation.
5. Provide input to the director and perform a periodic review of the educational program, assess the general effectiveness of the program, and ensure continued development and update of the Blinn College PTA Program.
6. Participate in curriculum development, review, and revision as it pertains to classroom and lab experiences.
7. Advise prospective and current PTA students and have a general knowledge of degree requirements, programs, and course transfer information.
8. Assist with the admissions process for the PTA Program including screening and interviewing of applicants.
9. Prepare all necessary lecture material, course syllabus including objectives and competencies, exams and lab practicals for courses taught utilizing instructional materials and methods appropriate for the subject matter.
10. Provide input to the director on budget, computer software, lab materials, books, and instructional materials to ensure a sound educational program.
11. Establish and ensure the proper utilization and repair of the laboratory equipment in accordance with defined educational objectives.
12. Assist with coordination and supervision of clinical work (practicums) at clinical affiliation sites.
13. Assist the director in maintaining complete student records for admission, health, attendance, achievement evaluation, and clinical competency.
14. Establish and maintain an active liaison with the physical therapy community and the program.
15. Promote good interpersonal and interdepartmental relationships.
16. Exhibit professional appearance at all time.
17. Have a thorough knowledge of physical therapy and related health fields and be able to present material well in a classroom or laboratory situation.
18. Assist students with varied backgrounds to achieve their optional potential through positive motivation, encouragement, and the stimulation of critical thinking skills in a courteous manner.
19. Maintain competence in the academic area and be an active member of professional organizations including the American Physical Therapy Association, Texas Physical Therapy Association, and the Texas Consortium of Physical Therapist Assistant Educators.
20. Meet deadlines for required paperwork and accept assignments delegated by the director.
21. Serve on committees in service to Blinn College District and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Associate degree in Physical Therapist Assistant studies or Graduate degree in Physical Therapy.
2. Current PT or PTA license in the state of Texas.
3. Minimum 3 years field experience.
Preferred Experience and Training
1. Bachelor’s degree or higher.
2. Didactic and/or clinical teaching experience.

Required Degree, License or Certifications
Current Physical Therapist (PT) license or Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) license issued by the Texas State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners.

This is an at-will, ‘per semester’ position. Part-time faculty will be responsible for assisting primary instructor(s) and/or serving as the primary instructor for course(s) based on program needs each semester.
