Position Summary Information


Objective
Instruction in the following topic areas: Small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS) flight training, test prep, and other courses related to FAA Part 107 or sUAS systems.
The instructor is expected to serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and assist in creating, maintaining and sharing an outline/syllabus for the course.
Essential Duties
• The instructor is expected to serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and assist in creating, maintaining and sharing an outline/syllabus for the course(s).
•The instructor must effectively demonstrate course content and knowledge of related activities.
•The instructor will assist in compiling the class supply list needed by the students and instructor for the completion of the classes related to Small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS) flight training and FAA Part 107 test prep.
• Demonstrate a commitment to student engagement, student success, and
instructional excellence.
• Maintain access to students through posted office hours and electronic
communication.
• Prepare and utilize a course syllabus and assessments for each course using guidelines established by the institution.
• Maintain current knowledge of effective teaching methodologies and utilize
a variety of instructional delivery methods, classroom media, and educational resources.
• Evaluate student performance through a variety of means to measure progress while informing students in a timely manner.
• Assist in the development, distribution and collection of assessments for courses and program objectives.
• Provide recommendations to the Academic Dean, Assistant Dean,
Program Coordinator, and Curriculum Resource Team regarding curriculum.
• Demonstrate a positive and professional relationship with students, colleagues, college administration, and the community.
• Provide information requested of all faculty.
• Submit timely college reports and forms to the appropriate divisions/departments.
• Exhibit a commitment to lifelong learning through participation in professional development activities.
• Possess a passion for teaching community college students.
• Demonstrate effective communication skills, both written and orally.
• Attend college orientation and required institutional meetings.
• Responsible for other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in related teaching field.
  • A current FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certification
  • At least 3 years of non-teaching work experience in the field
  • Knowledge and skills including: flight controls, aerodynamics, thorough understanding of the National Airspace System (NAS), aviation weather, aviation safety, ethical airmanship, FAA Registration, and community-based safety guidelines.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills

Preferred Experience and Training
  • Minimum of 50 hours of logged Commercial flight time as Pilot In Command (PIC) under Part 107
  • One or more years of experience in sUAS training
  • Curriculum design in an adult learning environment
  • Additional FAA certificates and/or ratings that would lead to the competencies required for the successful performance of the position’s essential duties

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and stand.
The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach, bend, push and pull.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move items weighing up to 25 pounds.

Required Degree, License or Certifications
As required by THECB and SACSCOC specifications for faculty teaching CE, credit certificate or associate degree courses NOT designed to transfer to a baccalaureate degree (WECM).
Current FAA Remote Pilot Certificate as outlined in Part 107.
