HEALTH SCIENCES (BL-MED-IUBLA)

The IU School of Medicine is the largest school of medicine in the United States. It is 1 school, on 9 campuses. The Bloomington campus teaches not only medical students in all 4 years of instruction, but also graduate students in Anatomy and Physiology, and Cell and Molecular Cancer Biology; a robust Continuing Medical Education series; and undergraduate students in several large general education courses. The campus hosts over 35 full faculty and nearly 400 adjunct faculty, most of whom are practicing physicians in the area. The research program includes educational, basic science, and clinical and translational research. Medical Residencies in Emergency Medicine and Internal  Medicine are planned to begin in 2025 and 2026.

IU School of Medicine-Bloomington is hiring a part-time communications professional to assist with updating and developing media content and communications.

Department Specific Responsibilities

  • Supports the creation and revision of print and online materials intended for both internal and external audiences, including newsletters, departmental correspondence, memos, presentations, and/or other informative or promotional material. 
  • Creates and implements a strategic social media plan, including updating content. 
  • Participates in the review and revision of the IUSM-Bloomington web pages and associated/linked pages. This will require collaboration with communications and media staff from the IUSM, IU-Bloomington, and IU Health South Central Region.
  • Works closely with the Associate Dean and her Executive Assistant, Indianapolis-based IUSM and IU Health-based communications and media staff.
  • Provides input into a comprehensive media strategy.
  • Manages the IUSM-Bloomington social media accounts, and post content.
  • Participates in a comprehensive website redesign, including identifying and creating needed content, and serving as a liaison to the IUSM, IU Health and IU-Bloomington media representatives.
  • Assists staff with materials to promote events.
  • Assists with internal and external communication.
  • Updates onsite content i.e. MedTV.
  • Develops ad hoc content, including photography, flyers, promotional material, pamphlets, etc.

EDUCATION

Required 

  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required 

  • 2 years in relevant field

SKILLS

Required

  • Strong written and visual communication skills, including creating and editing
  • Experience with social media and web content management
  • Excellent collaboration and team building skills; attention to detail; and ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage multiple projects/deadlines simultaneously
  • Demonstrates ability to maintain confidential information

Bloomington, Indiana

$17.00 - $25.00 per hour

Anticipated commitment is no greater than 29 hours/week, with estimated weekly hours in the 20-25 hours per week range.
