Brief Position Overview | The Allen Yarnell Center for Student Success seeks to support and advantage students through personalized advising, tutoring, and coaching. We aid students in generating and maintaining confidence and motivation to learn and engage. The AYCSS houses various offices including Career, Internship & Student Employment Services and The Office of Student Success. As part of Career Services, Career Coaches provide opportunities for students to evaluate their interests and values as they pursue meaningful and fulfilling work. As part of a multi-faceted and results-oriented team, Student Success Advisors are responsible for conducting intervention and advising meetings with students. Advisors are responsible for connecting with students identified as “atrisk,” or who seek out services for time management, test taking skills and learning strategies. Our coaches and advisors ensure students acquire the tools, resources, and counsel to develop skills and strategies to aid in defining their professional goals and navigating the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century. |

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills | 1. Bachelor’s degree in relevant field, or a combination of education and/or experience from which comparable skills are acquired. 2. Experience in student advising at the post-secondary level or experience with career/professional coaching. 3. Demonstrated experience in program delivery and with a high degree of professionalism. 4. Demonstrated technical competence using personal computers and various software such as word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software & relational databases with a willingness to learn additional department and MSU specific software and programs. 5. Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced office setting. 6. Ability to troubleshoot problems and have candid conversations. |
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills | 1. Master’s Degree, or combination of education and/or applicable experience equivalent to a master’s degree. 2. Experience facilitating and instructing small group workshops and classes. 3. Knowledge of trends in higher education, Human Resources, the economy and/or workforce development trends. 4. Demonstrated experience with teaching and learning pedagogy. 5. Experience facilitating and instructing small group workshops and classes. 6. Possess knowledge of the higher education system and related services. |
