Part-time Assistant Director of Housing Operations (Fixed-term), Assignments – Division of Student Affairs

Carnegie Mellon University’s department of Housing Services is searching for a part-time Assistant Director of Housing Operations – Assignments. This is a fixed-term, non-benefits eligible position available from mid-April through May 30, working 15 hours per week.

In this role, you will serve as a member of the housing services team and will be responsible for contributing to the management and oversight of several significant processes within the operations and assignments areas.

Core responsibilities will include:

  • Management and oversight of all housing assignment processes including Room Selection and First-Year Assignments, graduate housing initiatives, room change processes, and Winter Break housing, as well as oversight for Greek and Summer Housing; manages all components of these processes, from planning to completion

  • Management and maintenance of all housing application processes, forms, and processes within the StarRez Housing portal

  • Primary line of communication for all assignments and related questions from students and parents, including email, phone calls, walk-ins and/or scheduled appointments

  • Primary user of the StarRez system, with oversight of student data, applications, bookings, messaging, billing, reporting, rooms setup, portal management, correspondence tracking, and overall data integrity; requires strong attention to detail

  • Direct supervision of professional staff members and general oversight for students employees supervised by those direct reports

  • Staff training, process organization and implementation, occupancy planning and other reporting responsibilities, benchmarking, recruitment and marketing initiatives, and student response

  • All messaging related to the processes and contained in University and departmental documents, websites and newsletters

  • Coordination of assessment activities related to the housing operations areas

  • Assists with all annual processes including opening, winter break, closing, and summer operations

  • Assists with access needs and front desk coverage as needed

  • On call responsibilities related to this position and departmental needs

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, or other related field is highly desired

  • 1-3 years of relevant work experience required; experience working in Housing/Residence Life preferred

  • Experience using StarRez or a similar housing software system preferred

  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered
