Position Summary Information


Objective
Provide classroom instruction in ABE, HSE, ESL, EL Civics & Intensive College Readiness.
Essential Duties
1. Provides ABE activities and instruction across a continuum, from pre- and basic literacy through elementary levels, culminating with competencies equivalent to the eight-grade level, and ASE activities and instruction comparable to the competencies developed in secondary high school and college development education.
2. Provides ESL activities and instruction across a continuum, from pre- and basic literacy through elementary levels, culminating with transition to English coursework.
3. Provides instruction to help students earn the TxCHSE by successfully passing the GED test.
4. Provides instruction that will teach students the skills in obtaining postsecondary and training credentials that are of value to local businesses.
5. Provides AEL instruction and activities for students concurrently and contextually with Workforce Preparation Activities and Workforce Training for specific occupations identified as existing and emerging in-demand or targeted occupations or occupational clusters.
6. Attends professional development as mandated by the state and the needs of the program.
7. Builds curriculum and lesson plans in accordance with accepted Texas Adult Education and Literacy Content standards.
8. Administers CASAS (Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment Systems) and/or TABE (Test for Adult Basic Education) when applicable to assess incoming students or student progress.
9. Maintains student records and reports progress data for “Texas Educating Adults Management System” (TEAMS) entry in accordance with program policies.
10. Plans, implements, documents and evaluates instructional practices, procedures and materials.
11. Provides supervision of academic assistants if needed, and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Education, English, ESL, or Mathematics.
2. Knowledge of instruction, course design, and lesson planning strategies.
3. Ability to design and provide activities and instruction across a continuum, from pre- and basic literacy through college and career-ready levels. Instruction includes reading and language, ESL, mathematics, communication skills, social studies, physical sciences and health, Digital Literacy and career and college readiness competencies.
4. Ability to design and provide activities and instruction across a continuum of English Language Learning in reading, listening, writing, and language.
5. Capable of providing and coordinating Distance Learning activities in which participants and instructors are separated by geography, time, or both for most of the instructional period and guide instructors in the use of such activities.
6. Has requisite skills and knowledge in the teaching discipline and the ability for continuous efforts to improve the quality of instruction by reviewing and utilizing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods.
7. Ability to implement and use the AEL standard syllabus for each course type and departmental guidelines to plan, develop, and use a variety of teaching methods and materials that assist students and instructors in meeting course objectives.
8. Ability to maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community, provide access to students and instructors through posted office hours, electronic communication, and other appropriate methods, and provide advice and assistance to students and instructors regarding instructional or program-specific issues.
9. Strong working knowledge of various operating systems and familiarity with Internet, data management and office software.
10. Ability to maintain confidentiality, and to work as a member of the adult education program.
11. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities in communications both inside and outside the program.
12. Ability to work under stress and/or time demands.
13. Able to work unsupervised when necessary and complete necessary programmatic monitoring and reporting activities on a regular schedule.
14. Honoring Blinn’s and the Texas Adult Education and Literacy policies and regulatory requirements.
15. Being helpful, respectful, approachable, and team oriented and taking ownership of work.

18. Willing to travel within the service area and to work evenings or weekends as required.
19. Ability to speak, read, and write in Spanish to help with Spanish instruction for Spanish speaking students who are interested in attaining their GED.
Preferred Experience and Training
1. Spanish/English Bilingual..
2. TESOL Certification.
3. Teaching experience working with a diverse population of adult students in a multi-level setting.
4. Curriculum development and lesson planning experience.
5. Current knowledge of Texas Adult Education and Literacy policies and procedures.
6. Knowledge of Aztec and Burlington English distance learning program.
Physical Requirements

Required Degree, License or Certifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Education, English, ESL, or Mathematics, or other education field.
Special Notes To Applicants
This is a grant-funded position which will require travel and may require working some nights and/or weekends.
This position is 100% grant funded, therefore, this position is not permanent and will be eliminated once the grant funding is spent, grant ends or the fiscal year ends, whichever comes first.
