Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The mission of the Department of Auxiliary Services is to provide quality goods and services to the University at a fair and reasonable price. These services are designed to support the educational mission of the University and enhance the efforts of members of the University community.
The Parking and Transportation Program is a fee-for-service program that has a major impact on visitor impressions of the university and a significant impact on student, faculty, and staff impressions of the workplace as a friendly, pleasant environment and an indirect impact on their productivity.
The Program must be customer-focused. The Program must seek ways to park cars while minimizing the visual impact efficiently; handle special events in the most efficient manner; reduce traffic on campus; allocate parking fairly; and enforce parking regulations fairly.
The Parking and Transportation Program administers all phases of parking operations, including special event parking; permit registration and distribution; parking allocations to user groups; visitor parking; mobile payment operations; enforcement, petitions, and appeals; and recording/collections of fees and fines. The Parking and Transportation Program encourages and plans for transportation alternatives to single occupancy vehicles with carpooling incentives, shuttle services, and an infrastructure supportive of pedestrians and cyclists.
The Parking and Transportation Program provides the data and impact analysis to be used in planning physical plant improvements, such as surface lots, parking decks, sidewalks, bike racks, and bike lanes and paths.

Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The duties of the Parking Customer Service Supervisor include:
  • Supervising, directing, supporting, and evaluating the customer service support team with professional expertise in customer service excellence
  • Establishing deadlines and priorities of regular work assignments of the unit over a short and long-range period
  • Assessing the needs of the unit and recommends or makes minor changes in workflow, procedures, or assignments to accommodate changing priorities
  • Providing detailed information on rules, regulations, policies, and/or procedures to staff and customers by having extensive knowledge of the policies and procedures and how to apply them to support the mission of the department
  • Assisting as the departmental accounting liaison
  • Acting as departmental purchasing assistant; assists with accounts payables and accurately records and tracks cash, checks, deposits, and payments received
  • Assisting in the research of potential expenditures and provides data to higher management
  • Reconciling accounting reports to banner and performing journal entries

This Position is responsible for recording financial data and assuring its accuracy. May assist the parking appeals coordinator and collections agent as needed. Determines the need for formal training to supplement on-the-job training, identifies external sources for training, recommends expenditures for training to management, and allocates time for completion of training.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency and two years of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience, including some experience as a lead worker; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Preferred education, professional skills and experience
  • 2 years supervisory experience in a parking customer service or closely related field 
  • Technical knowledge is preferred as current technologies exist and additional high-tech equipment comes online to campus frequently
  • A strong working knowledge and the ability to use a computer and other devices, run multiple software, and create reports used during the performance of duties
  • A substantive working knowledge of the UNCW Parking Rules and Regulations and any related state laws and university and department/UNCW policies and procedures as required
  • This position must have the ability to communicate in written and oral form effectively, be courteous when dealing with the campus community, make sound decisions under stressful situations, and establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • This position requires significant knowledge and experience with administrative office policies, procedures, systems, and practices
  • It requires an ability to be a team player
  • A basic knowledge of accounting principles is needed as this position may assist in these processes
