Overview of Parent, Community, and Early Education Liaison for Admissions

The Office of Admissions at Purdue University Northwest is seeking a Parent, Community and Early Education Liaison. The Liaison reports to the Director of Undergraduate Admissions and plays a critical role with engaging families, local schools and students with various majors, programs and assistance that Purdue Northwest has to offer. This position will facilitate parent/school communication, community resources and referrals, encourage parent involvement, foster higher academic achievement through collaboration with school personnel especially for our local Hispanic population as Purdue Northwest embarks to become a Hispanic Serving Institution.


Duties and Responsibitlies of Parent, Community and Early Education Liaison

Campus Events:

  • Coordinate on campus events for parents
  • Coordinate on campus events for community Groups & Middle School
  • Partner with Academic Departments to enhance the events hosted on campus
  • Oversee parent & family activities throughout the school year
  • Facilitate event scheduling, marketing & assessment


Off Campus Events:

  • Coordinate parent & family events in regional locations
  • Work with Executive Director to market events to internal and external audiences
  • Provide outreach to middle schools to facilitate our staff coming to their campus
  • Collaborate with regional community groups to partner on events they are hosting


Recruitment and Relationship Building:

  • Support campus-wide programs
  • Assist with Student Engagement initiatives as required, including New Student Programs, Leadership, Service, Greek Life, student organization support, and university wide initiatives
  • Establish relationships with community leaders and organizations
  • Establish relationships with region middle school principals and counselors to enhance our partnerships Provide Pre-Admission Counseling to prospective students with a focus on parents, guardians and their families.
  • Communicate with prospective students and parent/guardians to educate and move students through the enrollment funnel
  • Provide admissions presentations to prospective students and their parent/guardians
  • Develop, implement and coordinate recruitment activities

Education of Parent, Community and Early Education Liaison
  • Bachelor's degree

Experience of Parent, Community and Early Education Liaison
  • 1-2 years professional experience working in a related field to an admission office in a higher education environmentExperience with the following will also be considered: 
    • Parent, community, or middle school/junior high groups
    • In the field of sales, marketing, recruitment and/or public relations
    • Internship level positions as well as undergrad and graduate positions held in higher education
  • Spanish speaking required.

Core Competencies of Parent, Community and Early Education Liaison
  • Must be a self-starter with strong written, verbal, & interpersonal skills
  • Proven success at organizing events & providing professional presentations.
  • Must be self-motivated, have attention to detail, focus on quality, problem solving skills & be team-oriented
  • Ability to manage involvement in multiple projects
  • Build collaborative work relationships among Admission staff & other Enrollment Management units as well as build strong relationships with community partners in local K-12 schools and area colleges.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Ability to use transportation to attend recruitment events scheduled days, evenings and sometimes weekends.
  • Load & transport admissions materials & other equipment
  • Must be able to lift and carry 10-25lbs frequently and up to 40lbs occassionally
  • Preferred: Ellucian (Banner) or Slate experience. Broad understanding of the enrollment process.
