POSTED JOB TITLE:  Painter (Flexible Position)

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Painting tasks necessary for preparation of surfaces to be covered, mixing, coating, ingredients, and applying protective or decorative materials.
  • Applies coats of primer, paint, varnish, stains, enamel or lacquer to decorate and protect interior or exterior surfaces.
  • Smooths surfaces using sandpaper, brushes, or steel wool and removes old paint from surfaces using paint remover, scraper, and wire brush or blow torch to prepare surfaces for painting.
  • Fills nail holes, cracks, and joints with filler material. 
  • Selects premixed paint and stains to match existing colors.
  • Mixes paint to desired color by adding pigment, oil and thinning substances.
  • Supervises an assists in painting and varnishing surfaces using brushes, spray gun, roller or cloth.
  • Performs varied carpentry type work, including: cabinet and furniture repair; repairs to doors, hardware, locks, and closures;  masonry and drywall repair; puttying; roofing and sheet metal work; tuck-pointing and sealing; flooring repair and installation; and sand blasting.
  • Performs general and finish carpentry work, repair and maintenance of existing buildings, floors, roofs, walls, stairways, doors, windows, cabinet making, desks, chairs, and other structures, including work on new University structures.
  • Operates all types of power and hand tools used in carpenter work.
  • Cleans, sharpens, and repairs hand and bench tools; sharpens saws; oils machines and performs preventive maintenance work.
  • Keeps records of materials used. 
  • Performs duties such as: hang sheetrock, paint, pour concrete, and other duties associated with the carpentry trade.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION:
Reports to the Carpenter Foreman

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Graduate of a standard high school or equivalent.
  • Two years of painting and/or carpentry experience.
  • The ability to understand and implement oral and written instructions.
  • Demonstrated ability to use tools of the trade.
  • Must be able to perform work requiring lifting weights up to 50 pounds, climbing, ladder work, crawling, and overhead work, kneeling, walking and standing for extended periods.
  • Possesses valid Oklahoma Driver License 
  • PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:
    Three or more years painting experience.

    Commensurate with education and experience.
