As a Painter in UAB Hospital Maintenance Facilities, you will play a vital role in maintaining the aesthetic appeal of our healthcare facility while maintaining a safe and comfortable healthcare environment, all while demonstrating a dedication to providing excellent customer service.

 

Maintains and repairs painted surfaces and wall coverings. Performs skilled painting work and installs wall coverings on a wide variety of surfaces. Reads, understands, and interprets blueprints, drawings, floor plans, schedules and manufacturer's operating and/or maintenance specifications as they relate to electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC & special equipment, building structures and finishes. May be called upon to perform the work of or assist other maintenance personnel, including carpenters, masons, maintenance technicians, HVAC mechanics, electricians, plumbers, general mechanics, etc. Responds to requests for maintenance and service from Hospital building occupants.

 

Essential Accountabilities:

·         Performs a variety of duties such as scraping, sanding, repairing walls and painting, varnishing and hanging wallcovering in an effort to maintain and upgrade the aesthetical values of the Hospital.

·         Performs repairs, modifications, replacements, and installations of sheet metal items to include heating, ventilating, and air conditioning ducts and equipment, exhaust hoods, grilles and diffusers, housings, cabinets, pitch cups, gutters, and other similar items.

·         Fabricates sheet metal items to include heating, ventilating, and air conditioning ducts and equipment; exhaust hoods; grilles and diffusers; housings; cabinets; pitch cups; gutters; and other similar items.

·         Maintains and operates hand tools and powered sheet metal fabricating equipment such as press brakes, shears, rollers, slitters, welding equipment and other similar items.

·         Develops sheet metal layouts according to design drawings, sketches and an analysis of the job site.

·         Maintains accurate records of paint colors used, quantities, and locations for future reference.

·         Coordinates with other maintenance and staff to schedule and execute painting projects efficiently.

·         Provides reports on completed projects and ongoing painting activities.

·         Follows safety guidelines and protocols to create a safe working environment.

·         Uses appropriate safety gear and precautions during painting activities.

·         Attends monthly safety meetings and other required training.

·         Provides excellent customer service to internal and external customers.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

·         Proven experience as a painter, preferably in a hospital or healthcare setting.

·         Ability to work independently

·         Excellent time management skills

·         Knowledge of painting principles, methods, materials with use of hand tools.

·         Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

·         Ability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature, without loss of efficiency or composure

·         Ability to perform effectively when confronted with emergency, critical, unusual or dangerous situations

·         Must be able to use Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to print, manage and complete scheduled and unscheduled work orders

·         Must be able to maintain a customer focus and strive to satisfy the customer's perceived needs

·         Must be comfortable with working in a healthcare environment

·         Required to possess the necessary physical requirements, with or without the aid of mechanical devices, to safely perform the duties and responsibilities that require performing tasks requiring wearing respirator and other personal protective equipment, such as self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), to include:

·         Lifting and carrying a minimum of fifty (50) pounds.

·         Climbing stairs, ladders and scaffolding, and working at heights above thirty (30) feet.

·         Performing tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, and walking significant distances between and within buildings on campus.

·         Working in confined spaces.

·         Working within extreme temperature ranges.

 

 

Work Schedule: The regular work hours will be established. Incumbent must have flexibility due to on-call requirements. Position is designated as essential personnel. Essential personnel are required to work during emergency situations, such as inclement weather, regardless of the University’s closure. Employees should be prepared to travel to work during inclement weather, emphasizing the importance of their role in critical situations. Qualifications

 

 

Hourly Pay Range:  $17.00 - $23.00 (Commensurate with experience & qualifications)

 

 

Qualifications

 

High School diploma or GED and three (3) years of related experience required.

Licenses/Certifications/Registrations

Driving record should meet University underwriting guidelines to drive vehicle in performance of University business. Current underwriting guidelines include possession a valid driver’s license, issued in the United States; at least 21 years of age; at least three years of driving experience; maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
