Established in 1978, Moores Cancer Center is the region’s only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. This designation is reserved for centers with the highest achievements in cancer research, clinical care, education and community contributions.

Under the direction of the Medical Director of the Moores Cancer Center Infusion Center, the Sr. Physician Assistant (PA) will function as a provider of patient care for patients receiving treatment in the Infusion Center. The PA will provide patient care oversight, including management of toxicities and/or reactions to IV treatments. Direct supervision will occur by assigned medical oncologists. The position requires a strong emphasis on the management of patients undergoing cancer and non-cancer related treatments, including clinical trials, BMT, chemotherapy, biologic and immunotherapies.

  • Must be a graduate from a physician assistant program approved by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).

  • California Physician Assistant (PA) license.

  • Current PA Certification from NCCPA.

  • Current ART certification, or BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six (6) months of hire date.

  • Minimum one year of full-time work experience as a licensed Physician Assistant in heme/onc, infusion, and/or ED/urgent care.

  • Theoretical background in: anatomy, physiology, general medicine, pulmonary, emergency and critical care medicine, management of common diseases, concepts of medicine and surgery, therapeutics including pharmacology, counseling techniques and interpersonal dynamics.

  • Proven ability to perform initial history, and physical examination, identify major medical problems, and formulate appropriate plans of action.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of common diagnostic tests, exams, and procedures used in a clinic setting.

  • Must understand purpose, required supplies and/or equipment, how to perform procedure accurately, infection control, an accurate documentation of medical chart.

  • Strong ability to manage own patient load.

  • One (1) or more years of Oncology Infusion or Hematology Oncology experience as a Physician Assistant.

  • ER and/or Urgent Care experience.

  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Must be able to obtain UCSD Medical Staff privileges and maintain during employment. Due to advanced practice credentialing eligibility, clinical advanced practice experience must be within the last two years.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $192,702 - $192,702 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $92.29 - $92.29

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
