The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
Position Summary
Working with the Associate Vice Dean for Research and the Directors in the Office for Research, the fellow will play a crucial role in supporting the various facets of our medical school's mission and work on projects related to research administration and research development, space management, grants management, and core facilities coordination. Working closely with our experienced team, the fellow will gain valuable insights and hands-on experience in these critical areas. The fellow will assist faculty with proposal development services by coordinating the preparation and submission of large grant proposals that are multi-departmental and multi-institutional. The fellow will assist faculty in all aspects of proposal writing, editing, and preparation and will lead the preparation of the non-technical components of applications of the proposal. The fellow must understand and/or be able to learn scientific concepts and investigators??? research-related needs. In addition, the fellow will be involved with projects and initiatives to promote the growth of the VP&S research mission and improve research development activities.
Responsibilities
- Research Space Management:
- Assist in optimizing the utilization of research spaces within the medical school.
- Maintain and update space allocation records and floor plans.
- Research Development:
- Coordinate the preparation and submission of large grant proposals that are multi-departmental and multi-institutional in nature.
- Assist faculty in all aspects of proposal writing, editing, and preparation including the preparation of the non-technical components grant proposals.
- Grants Management:
- Support the grants management team in organizing and maintaining grant-related documentation.
- Assist in tracking grant deadlines, submissions, and reporting requirements.
- Participate in the preparation and submission of grant proposals.
- Core Facilities Coordination:
- Collaborate with core facilities managers to ensure efficient operation and utilization.
- Help oversee the scheduling and billing system equipment and resources for research projects.
- Assist in monitoring usage, maintenance, and billing of core facilities.
- Research Project Support:
- Participate in research administration projects to improve processes and procedures.
- Conduct data analysis and research to support decision-making.
- Assist in creating reports and presentations related to research activities.
Minimum Qualifications
- MD or PhD in biological sciences/biomedical research
Preferred Qualifications
Two years of postdoctoral research experience is preferred. Basic science research experience. Other desired experience includes knowledge of scientific equipment, grant and contract proposal development.
Other Requirements
Requires strong writing and presentation skills and previous grant writing/submission experience. Requires previous research experience. Requires flexibility and time-management skills, including the ability to prioritize among a large number of diverse responsibilities. Must be able to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills are required. The ability to work independently and as a team member and respond professionally in challenging situations is essential. Experience with Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Outlook, Excel, and Word) and collaboration software; experience in establishing and maintaining effective professional working relationships; experience working collaboratively and adapting to changing processes and procedures; evidence of interpersonal skills and effective verbal and written communication skills.
