Outside Plant (OSP) Project Engineer

Location: Ann Arbor, MICHIGAN

*Leads engineers, designers, construction managers, and customers through the OSP (Outside Plant) phases of telecommunications construction projects.  Creates the design, bill-of-material, project costs, drawings, documentation, and configuration specifications for OSP Facility implementation.  

*Assists in the development of implementation plans and timelines, provides status reports, and exchanges relevant information with management and technical teams.  Provides accurate time estimates for tasks, identifies impacted teams, and notifies co-workers and management of potential risks and issues to identify and implement resolutions.  Provides project budget estimates.

*Approves project outcomes including contractor work; test results; and payment for work.  May develop RFPs (requests for proposal), reviews bid and consults on bidder selection.  

*Collaborates with and gathers technical requirements with cross-functional teams.  In collaboration with team members, designates OSP (Outside Plant) fiber and copper assignments, OSP IT Infrastructure design requirements (including manhole and duct requirements), Building Entrance penetrations, installation of OSP facilities into the BDF (Building Distribution Frame), splicing, termination, and testing of OSP facilities using established guidelines and customer requirements.  

*Prepares and publishes detailed documents for OSP facilities that include required routes, circuit/pair assignments, completed as-built documentation, and associated CAD details.  Develops, documents, and presents procedural documentation for the team and other technical staff.  

*Performs analysis of IT Infrastructure facility concerns by investigating, analyzing, and resolving problems, poor performance, and error conditions due to field requirements, changes in design, or other obstacles, and works closely with impacted departments to resolve issues.  Provides support, as required, for facility installation concerns and IT Infrastructure certifications.

*Assumes a lead role in providing technical consulting to project managers and customers to ensure optimal IT Infrastructure design and deployment strategies. Participates in strategic planning and setting of technical direction.  Conducts research to support recommendations of new products and services.  Collaborates with cross-functional teams and advises on new products/services.

*Stays current with relevant advances in IT Infrastructure technologies.  This could include on-the-job training, attending technical courses or conferences, reading, research, and testing.  Provides mentoring to staff
