Outdoor Leadership Student Teaching Assistant

As a student teaching assistant, you will assist professors with outdoor classes. This opportunity is available at Prince William Sound College (PWSC), where the Outdoor Leadership program offers a comprehensive two-year Associate's degree focused on developing outdoor and leadership skills. PWSC offers small class sizes, a close-knit campus community, and one-on-one interaction with staff and faculty shape a unique learning experience, along with recreational opportunities abound for outdoor enthusiasts in the nearby mountains, waterways, and glaciers.

To thrive in this role, you must have a strong passion for outdoor activities and leadership development, along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to best assist a variety of classes and populations. A willingness to assist in organizing and conducting outdoor classes by working in collaboration with the professor and fellow students is a must. This position is ideal for someone passionate about the outdoors and eager to apply their knowledge and skills in an educational setting.

Minimum Qualifications:

Successful completion of the specific course they plan to assist in instructing. Certifications required include Wilderness First Responder, Leave No Trace Trainer, and CPR; which are all obtained or offered during the first year of the Outdoor Leadership program. Completion of the first year of the Outdoor Leadership program is, therefore, required. A valid driver's license and clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving Criteria is required.

To be eligible for student employment, students must be registered in six or more UA credits, be scheduled to work no more than 20 hours a week during the semester as a student employee.

Continuing student employees must demonstrate a record of successfully completing at least six UA credits in previous semesters, maintain a 2.0 cumulative grade point average, work no more than 20 hours a week during the semester in a student employee position.

Position Details:

This position is located on the Prince William Sound Campus in Valdez, Alaska. This is a Student Assistant 1 position.
