Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill one Physical Activity Video Assistant position for the OSU Extension Family and Community Health Program at Oregon State University (OSU).
The OSU Extension Service Family and Community Health Program in Deschutes County seeks a native Spanish speaker for work translating videos for its “OSU BEPA 2.0 Physical Activity Toolkit” video series. The ideal applicant will be a native Spanish speaker with excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as a strong knowledge of literary terms and other formal devices in both English and Spanish.
Position Duties
  • 70% Video production (filming, participating in and editing)
  • 20% Other duties as assigned
  • 10% Administrative paperwork and meeting

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

  • Fluency in Spanish and experience working and living in the Hispanic/Latinx community are required.

  • Must be able or willing to work as a member of a team. 

  • The Deschutes County Student Physical Activity Videographer and Outreach Educator (Spanish Speaker) will: 
    • Learn BEPA 2.0 Toolkit activities and perform the activities in a video.
    • Edit videos.
    • Assist local team in the creation of activity videos using the BEPA 2.0 Toolkit.
    • Set up equipment (filming and audio system, fitness equipment)
    • Wear appropriate and professional fitness apparel and shoes
    • Ensure appropriate use of stereo, microphone, check-in device, and fitness equipment
    • Support the organization, cleanness, and clean-up of fitness equipment, multi-purpose rooms/spaces, and storage areas
    • Uphold department values and policies for students, members, and guests
    • Attend and participate in staff meetings and trainings
    • Assist with other department activities as assigned that could include health promotion events such as attending the farmers’ markets.

  • Fluency in Spanish and English.
  • Excellent interpersonal and community engagement skills based in humility and curiosity.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, from writing emails, memos, articles, flyers, posters, to speaking at public gatherings.
  • Some experience working in service to others, whether customer, community member, peer, etc.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • A demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Proficient knowledge of video editing software 
  • Eye for visual composition
  • Comfortable shooting and editing video and/or photos
  • Knowledgeable about field video production
  • Knowledgeable of how to create video content
  • Ability and interest in learning to create content for all media platforms
  • Effective time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrable customer service talent
  • Is organized and reliable
  • Is comfortable giving and receiving feedback
  • Able to remain professional and calm when working with difficult individuals and situation
  • Experience with shooting and editing videos for social media. Familiarity with the following social media platforms: Instagram (Reels, IGTV) & TikTok. Knowledgeable of current TikTok trends. A commitment to creating inclusive content for diverse audiences. Willingness to work as a team member and take creative direction from others.
  • Applicants must be fluent in Spanish (written and spoken)
  • Applicant must have experience working independently and posting progress as directed
  • Applicants must demonstrate excellent communication skills – both written and verbal – in English and in Spanish
  • Applicants must be self-motivated and able to work both independently and with others
  • Applicants must be detail-oriented and able to work in a fast-paced environment
Preferred (Special) Qualifications
  • Advanced experience with Camtasia and some experience with Adobe Creative Suite. Photography experience with landscapes, architecture, and portraits. Experience creating social posts for a brand.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of literary terms in Spanish and English.
  • Native Spanish
  • Previous translation experience
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
  • This position can be located in Deschutes County for the summer of 2024 or part time in Corvallis for summer and fall.
