OSP Support Specialist (Contracts/Post Award)

We are currently seeking candidates to fill two positions within OSP. These roles will be awarded to individuals who demonstrate the necessary competencies and qualifications related to the positions.

The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) is a division of the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation at Virginia Tech. OSP provides a comprehensive array of administrative support services to the university to help faculty and staff obtain and manage grants and contracts from external sponsors who provide the funding for the university’s research projects. OSP functions as a steward of Virginia Tech’s research portfolio and is responsible for ensuring that all research proposals and projects comply with federal and state laws and regulations, the sponsor’s policies and terms and conditions, and university policies and procedures.

The Contracts position is an integral part of a dedicated team of professionals working to ensure that obligations for sponsored programs align with federal, state, university regulations, and the sponsor’s requirements. The Contracts Support Specialist assists faculty and the Office of Sponsored Programs in the preparation of documents and materials that facilitate research agreements and requests, including contracts, grants, subawards and award change requests. The Contracts Support Specialist organizes large volumes of information and works closely with others in the office to deliver consistent results to internal and external stakeholders, while also displaying a high level of professionalism and customer service. The Contracts Support Specialist performs effectively and with limited supervision in a fast-moving environment. The Contracts position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. 

The Post Award position will serve as part of the Award Set Up Team and Grant/Contract Management Team which is responsible for facilitating award and proposal processing and entry into the university accounting system in a timely and efficient manner, and the programmatic, non-financial management of awarded sponsored research projects encompassing project management and program extensions and closeouts. The position will be assigned tasks involving monitoring the post-award email address inbox, overhead proofing for research projects using Excel templates with formulas; preparing journal entries for overhead adjustments, residual transfers, revenue transfers, revenue refunds, etc.; assisting with completing project closeout, and assisting team members with journal entry tasks as needed. The Post Award position is a fully onsite work arrangement.
