The School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Oregon Research and Teaching Security Operations Center (ORTSOC), is seeking an ORTSOC Security Engineer. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.

As a Security Engineer at ORTSOC you will help us design, test, implement, and oversee an array of security tools and devices. You will also mentor students who are participating in an experiential learning program that provides managed security services to underserved organizations across the region. As part of the ORTSOC team, you will evaluate and implement short- and long-range goals toward the provision of cybersecurity systems and programs and participate in strategic planning. As a member of our security engineering team, you will formulate and implement technical security controls or incident response solutions. You will review and assess impacts or implications of exceptions to ORTSOC policy and are responsible for allowing or denying exceptions to policy. You will mentor ORTSOC clinical residents, other ORTSOC staff, and will work closely with ORTSOC clients, assisting in developing client onboarding solutions and maintaining client relationships.

Minimum Qualifications (Staff) / Guidelines (Faculty):


Typically requires Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field. 4 years' experience providing management in the area of computing systems infrastructure or web application management.

Requirements :

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
  • Proficiency with current best practices and standards in Cybersecurity Practice.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
