Department Summary
The Office of Orientation and Transition Programs is a department within the Division of Student Affairs and provides new students, continuing students, and family members with the tools necessary to make a smooth transition to UNT and toward graduation. Interns in the office play an integral role in the success of programs by providing leadership to event organization, supervising student leaders, and completing projects related to the university’s goals. A major component of the internship is providing opportunities for the intern to practice communication with diverse constituent groups, demonstrate event planning skills, and increase their knowledge about a student’s transition into the university setting.
Position Summary
Work is comprised of supporting student and family transition to UNT (50%), student leader supervision (40%), and evaluating program and student learning outcomes (10%). Additional duties include, but are not limited to:
Support all programs and initiatives originating from the office of Orientation and Transition Programs, including:
  • Freshman and Transfer Orientation and other parent and family programs.
  • Serve as a live-in professional staff member in the residence hall used for orientation
  • Assist with the supervision and development of Parent Ambassadors
  • Provide responsible leadership and role model good judgement as a supervisor to Parent Ambassadors
  • Assist with program assessment projects evaluating both student learning outcomes and program satisfaction, and compose executive summaries for events as instructed
  • Develop and maintain cooperative relationships with other university departments and off-campus community partners
  • Assistance with special projects is expected
  • Some evening and weekend hours may be required
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
Currently enrolled graduate students only. Preference will be given to applicants with experience and/or background in orientation, retention, and transition and who are pursuing a master’s degree in student affairs. The ideal applicant must be able to work with diverse constituencies and have strong communication and interpersonal skills. The intern should possess professionalism, excellent communication and organizational skills, integrity, and a positive attitude. Prior experience advising or supervising students is desired, but not required.
