Job Summary
The Organizational Development Manager (ODM) reports to the VCR Office Director and works closely with senior leaders in the office of research to provide business planning, strategic guidance, and advising. The ODM will support a variety of initiatives relative to organizational goals such as; ensuring sustainability of Units and programs, developing budget and resource models, and ensuring the infrastructure can adequately meet the needs of the research enterprise.
This work will have a broad organization-wide impact, and require the ODM to execute a diverse set of administrative functions including; human resources, budgetary planning, organizational structure and sustainability planning. Additionally, the ODM will exercise a high level of judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
Activities of the ODM will include:
- Performing evaluations to assess organizational needs
- Developing business models and funding proposals
- Recommending structural changes to meet research enterprise needs
- Implementing structural changes
- Creating high level summary reports and business plans

Department Description
The UCSF Office of Research, led by the Vice Chancellor for Research (VCR), focuses on the academic mission of UCSF, with a particular emphasis on academic research operations and science policy.
The Office of Research is the institutional steward of UCSF’s research mission. It provides campus-wide research administration, infrastructure, and services. This work is organized into the following units: Research Infrastructure and Operations (Research Resource Program; Laboratory Animal Resource Center; Environment, Health and Safety; the Research Development Office, the Institutional Animal Care and Use Program; and the Human Research Protection Program, International Research Support Operations), the Office of Sponsored Research (Industry Contracts, Proposal and Grants, Contracts and Awards, and the Office of Clinical Trial Activation) and the Associate Vice Chancellor of Clinical Research Office (Clinical Trials Operations, Biospecimen Program, Clinical and Translational Science Institute). The Vice Chancellor for Research (VCR) leads the Office of Research. There are four executive directors within the Office of Research that operationally report to the VCR – the Associate Vice Chancellor for Clinical Research, the Associate Vice Chancellor for Research Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Anti Racism, the Associate Vice Chancellor for Research Infrastructure and Operations, and the Assistant Vice Chancellor for the Office of Sponsored Research.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
- 5 years of relevant experience and/or equivalent experience/training
- Advanced knowledge of applicable strategic business, operational, or human resource planning
- Advanced skills in short- and long-range planning, program and project management, facilitation and collaboration
- Sound strategic thinking and consulting skills in guiding the organization toward workable strategies and solutions
- Proven ability to focus on priorities, strategies, and vision
- Advanced ability to coach, facilitate and influence people at all levels
- Advanced ability to build and maintain relationships with a broad range of staff and members of the community
- Knowledge of common organization-specific and other computer application programs
- Financial analysis and reporting techniques
- Demonstrated experience leading change management efforts
- Ability to exercise discretion and sensitivity to issues of confidentiality
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of employment practices, labor relations, training, and other areas of human and organizational initiatives
- Advanced knowledge of the organization's processes, protocols, and procedures
- Advanced Degree (Masters, PhD, JD, MD, etc.) in a related area or equivalent experience/training
