Job Summary:

The University of San Francisco (USF) is searching for adjunct faculty to join the School of Nursing and Health Professions’ Masters in Public Health (MPH) Program at our Orange County location (Orange, CA). The MPH Program at USF aims is to develop a cadre of public health leaders who will advance public health, social justice, and well-being of local and global populations, particularly the underserved. Faculty contribute to this mission through teaching that is grounded in education of the whole person to be a change agent who strives for excellence in all pursuits.
The MPH program in Orange County is accessible to working professionals and taught in the evenings using a hybrid format. We prepare graduates to synthesize and apply evidence-based knowledge of social ecological determinants to improve the health of vulnerable populations. Upon completion of the program, graduates will have the tools to improve access, delivery, and evaluation of health services. On the Orange County campus, the USF MPH Program offers a concentration in Community and Public Health Practice.

Job Responsibilities

The adjunct faculty member will teach one or more of the following core and/or concentration courses:

  • Health Policy & Ethics
  • Health Behavior Theory and Communication
  • Community-based Participatory Research and Practice
  • Project Management
  • Applied Research Methods
  • Environmental Health
  • Global Health
  • Applied Practice Experience course (including interprofessional team work) and Integrated Learning Experience (written capstone paper, similar to thesis)
  • Public health elective topics (e.g., maternal and child health, adolescent health, aging, community organizing, financial management, etc.)

The adjunct faculty member is responsible for preparing to teach, and for assessing student work and assigning grades. The faculty member is expected to provide feedback to students to enable success.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a relevant discipline such as Public Health, Epidemiology, Health Education, Environmental Health, Administration or a related field is required.
  • Experience in teaching and active-learning teaching methods is desired but not required if the candidate has extensive experience as a practitioner in the topic being taught.

Special Instructions to Applicants: Please note the teaching location is out of Orange County and not the main campus in San Francisco.
