The Princeton LGBTQIA Oral History Project (OHP) has been an innovative and important project and repository that originated in the LGBT Center and is now managed by the staff and students in the Gender + Sexuality Resource Center (GSRC). It was launched in the summer of 2017 by former LGBT Center Director Judy Jarvis as a partnership between the LGBT Center, QPA/BTGALA, the Program in Gender and Sexuality Studies and University Archives, with support from the Provost's Office's Princeton Histories Fund. The goal of the Oral History Project is to both create a historic record of the queer and trans community that has always existed at Princeton, and also to create possibility models for what queer and trans student can do/will do on this campus and beyond.

 

We are looking to hire interns for summer 2024 to help create an online exhibition for the OHP, inclusive of interview clips, keyword searches, and digitized archival materials.

 

This position is temporary.



During the Summer of 2024, OHP interns will be:

1) Helping to create an online exhibition of the Oral History Project that will be rolled out at the fall 2024 LGBTQIA+ alumni conference. This includes working with a website designer on content curation.

2) Going through the more than 100 hours of oral interviews that exist for the Oral History Project and

a. adding searchable keywords, identity markers, and content warnings to each file
b. pulling out clips from audio files to highlight in the online exhibit
c. adding events referenced to a timeline of queer Princeton history

3) Highlighting the intersectional identities of queer and trans Princeton alum
4) Working with the alumni office and university libraries to find and scan historic materials to add to the website to augment the audio files.
5) Creating a promotional campaign to get students, faculty, staff, and alum excited about the project and the online exhibition.



Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Knowledge of sexual orientation and gender identity and issues of concern related to womem/fem and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, and asexual identities.
  • Significant knowledge of intersectionality, and the ways that gender and sexual identities are impacted by race, religion, disability, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability and strong interpersonal skills to work in a social justice-oriented office with individuals and groups with a wide array of backgrounds, identities, life experiences and communication styles
  • Skill to pay close attention to detail and prioritize work load with frequent interruptions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Educational background in gender and sexuality studies
  • Experience working with archival materials
