Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applicants for an OR/Surgical Technician to be responsible for ensuring surgical rooms and instruments are sterilized, equipped, and supplied appropriately. The duties of the OR/Surgical Technician position are equivalent to a circulating nurse in human medicine.

Essential Functions
  • Assisting surgeons as needed by retrieving needed surgical instruments and equipment from surgical supply.
  • Cleaning operating rooms between surgical cases and making sure rooms are ready for the next case.
  • Positioning patients for surgery and performing aseptic prep of surgery site; and maintaining cleanliness and sterility of operating rooms.
  • Decontamination and sterilization of instrumentation using an autoclave and a vaporized hydrogen peroxide sterilizer.
  • Maintenance of surgical packs and instruments.

Minimum Qualifications
Level I: requires a high school diploma plus 1 year of experience in surgical technology, veterinary technology, or related field. Salary range: $31,200 – $43,500
Level II: requires a high school diploma or equivalent plus 2 years of experience in surgical services practices. Salary range: Salary range: $34,200 – $47,900
Level III: requires a high school diploma or equivalent plus 4 years of experience in surgical services practices OR Associate’s degree in surgical technology, veterinary technology, or related field plus 2 years of experience in surgical services practices. Salary range: $36,100 – $54,200

  • Experience working in a veterinary hospital and knowledge of surgical instruments and sterile techniques is desired.

  • CRCST – Certified and Registered Central Service Technician and CSPDT – Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Tech are desired.
