The University of Miami has an exciting opportunity for an Optometrist Resident with Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida.

The Optometrist Resident obtains advanced training and education in the clinical diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the eyes through participation in the residency program. The incumbent performs assessments of patients and provides related medical care.

Core Job Functions

  • Performs ocular examinations on patients of all ages, including children and the elderly.

  • Completes fundus examinations and writes impression and plans.

  • Supervises optometric externs and makes a final disposition on all their patients.

  • Experiences academic growth by attending lectures and utilizing library facilities, in addition to learning on-the-job from other members of the eye care team.

  • Gives formal classroom instruction in optometric subjects.

  • Assists all members of the eye care team by answering their questions regarding optometry.

  • Participates in optometric continuing education courses.

  • Performs or participates in occasional research projects, as approved by senior staff. Services, Residency Director, and the appropriate faculty.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
