Description of Work Unit
Optometry Clinic
The Optometry clinic at the CSU Health Network provides acute and routine care to CSU students by appointments and on a walk-in basis for urgent concerns. The Optometry clinic is part of the medical clinic composed of primary care physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners who care for students, with emphasis on preventive care, education, and continuity. The medical clinic is supported by a full range of laboratory, radiology, pharmacy, physical therapy, psychiatry, optometry, and nutrition services on site, and integrated care with counseling staff enhances the treatment of students with behavioral health concerns. Diagnostic and minor procedures are performed in the optometry clinic. This Optometry clinic is the only one in Colorado and one of a very few present in student health clinics nationwide. The Optometry Clinic provides services between the hours of 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday-Friday, providing attractive work schedules for staff.

Position Summary
The Optometrist – Manager of Optometry Services is responsible for the day-to-day operations within the Optometry Clinic.
This position examines, diagnoses and treats diseases and disorders of the visional system, the eye and associated structures, as well as diagnose related systemic conditions. This position serves students directly by appointment and also makes referral appointments at the request of the in-house medical services staff.
The Optometrist – Manager of Optometry Services reports directly to the Director of Medical Specialty Services.
Required Job Qualifications
Education/Licensure/ Certifications
  • Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree from an accredited school of Optometry
  • Current Colorado Optometrist license
  • Therapeutic Pharmaceutical Agents (TPA) Certification
  • Current certification in Basic Life support (BLS) or ability to obtain by the start date

Experience
  • One year of full-time experience providing services as an Optometrist
Preferred Job Qualifications
Experience
  • Board Certification in Optometry
  • Current controlled substance registration (DEA license)
  • Five years of experience as an Optometrist in a clinical setting
  • Experience with supervision of staff and management of an Optometry Clinic
  • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary practice setting
  • Experience working in a college health setting and/or experience working with a young adult/college age population
  • Experience working with diverse populations, including students with diverse religious/spiritual beliefs; racial, ethnic, class, and cultural backgrounds; and diverse sexual orientations and gender identities
  • Recent experience and comfort in fitting new wear and complex contact lens patients

  • The Optometry Clinic serves students directly by appointment for routine and acute care of eye/vision needs, including routine refraction for assessment of vision and need for corrective lenses or contact lens
  • Prescribing eyeglasses and contact lenses and follow up to ensure proper correction
  • Treatment of various acute and chronic eye conditions
  • Prescribing of appropriate medications when indicated
  • Promoting eye health by counseling the patients
  • Optometrist is also available for consultation by the medical services providers as needed
  • Referrals to outside specialists when indicated

  • Work with Director of Medical Specialty Services and Director of Operations to monitor the budget and plan for upcoming yearly budgets, including changes in staffing and addition of services or equipment purchases
  • Work with billing, coding, and insurance departments to insure continued accuracy in policies and procedures of department
