Job Summary

A part-time engineer is required to assist the project PI in the design of optical measurement systems for both mid-infrared spectroscopy and ultraviolet molecule photodissociation.

Job Duties

The engineer will take a major role in designing several new optical systems that interface with novel custom cryogenic and high vacuum instrumentation. Relevant spectral ranges include the infra-red, visible, and ultra-violet regimes. The engineer will be working closely with the Principal Investigator to conceive and design the instrumentation, which will be based on free-space and fiber approaches. He/she will assist in specifying  the components required for these systems, then will take responsibility for creating detailed engineering 3D drawings for them. Upon acquisition of the needed  materials, the engineer will subsequently drive the assembly, protocols for system control, and will then carry out full charaterization and subsequent optimization of system performance.

Basic Qualifications

• Ph.D. in physics or electrical/optical engineering.
• More than 10 years of experience in designing complex optical systems providing state-of-the art performance, using both free-space and fiber-based approaches.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD.
• Proficiency in finite-difference time-domain (FTDT) methods for simulation of optical systems.
• Significant experience in designing integrated photonics systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Significant experience with SolidWorks design.
• Significant experience with Lumerica simulations.
