Job Description:

A POST BACCALAUREATE in cell and invertebrate biology is available in the laboratory of Profs. Mark Martindale University of Florida’s Whitney Laboratory for Marine Bioscience, located in St. Augustine Florida.

The goal is to characterize the mesenchymal cells of the upside-down jellyfish Cassiopea, including cells housing intracellular photosymbionts in the Symbiodiniaceae family and potential immune cells. These involve phagocytosis assays and RNA sequencing of isolated cell types.

Responsibilities will include: Cassiopea animal husbandry, cell isolations through selective dissociations and cell sorting, RNA extraction, bioinformatics, symbiont inoculations, live microscopy, and phagocytosis assays.

Detailed training in all processes and procedures will be provided.

Additional experience in invertebrate biology is a plus

The position is temporary with funds available for 12 months, and compensation starting at $17/hr ($32,640 annually). Full time (40h week) employment is preferred, but part time may be an option. Minimum Requirements: A BS in biology or related disciplines with some laboratory experience is required.
Preferred Qualifications:

Additional experience in invertebrate biology is a plus.
