Position Title (Classification Title):  OPS Laborer, Service/Maintenance
Working Title:  Laborer
Job Summary: Responsible for maintaining the grounds and landscaping for the University. Performs a variety of grounds keeping tasks for general maintenance and improvements.

FLSA: Non-Exempt
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. One year of general grounds maintenance.
Position Qualifications: Knowledge of grounds keeping tools and techniques, turf-grass maintenance, and horticulture practices.
Preferred Qualifications Complete electronic time sheets. Report any damaged equipment to supervisor. Report safety hazards to supervisor. Clean equipment after use.
Essential Functions / Job Duties:
  • 75% - Maintain campus wide grounds by push mowing, edging, raking, hand trimming, and using weed control methods. Maintain campus trees and shrub/perennial beds by planting, pruning, watering, spraying, weeding, cleaning and mulching. May be assigned to assist other Grounds Services employees, May be required to provide on-the-job training to new employees. Operate University vehicles, including, but not limited to all purpose vehicles (Gator), pick-up trucks, small light duty dump trucks. Keep exterior areas free from litter, trash, underbrush and fallen branches, twigs, and leaves. Prepares ground and installs seed or sod. Clean up dirt and debris on campus, sidewalks, at trash container locations using various techniques and equipment such as pressure washers and blowers. Perform miscellaneous tasks including tool cleaning and fueling. Coordinate grounds maintenance tasks with other University departments. Report any damaged equipment to supervisor. Report safety hazards to supervisor. Clean equipment after use. - (Essential)
  • 15% - Prepare and plant seasonal beds and provide weeding, fertilization, and mulching as needed. Remove pests or animals from buildings and roadways when needed. Remove out dated banners from campus. Help with special events requiring landscaping skills. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Maintain surface drainage systems by keeping catch basin and drainage pathways free from debris. Apply fertilizer products in accordance with Florida law. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Other duties as assigned. - (Essential)
