OPS Instruction Librarian

Job Summary


The Florida Gulf Coast University Library seeks to hire a temporary instruction librarian to cover a mix of instruction and research assistance both in-person and virtually. This temporary position reports to the Director of Research, Scholarship, and Instruction. The instruction librarian may also be called on to work on department projects as needed.

Job Description

Typical duties include but not limited to:

  • Provide library instruction in a classroom setting
  • Develop learning objects for synchronous and asynchronous library instruction.
  • Provide general research assistance to FGCU students, staff, faculty and community members in-person and via chat/text, email, and phone.
  • Staff Ask-a-Librarian chat research assistance desk

Other duties:

  • Other projects and duties as assigned

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

  • ALA-accredited Master’s Degree or equivalent experience
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Classroom instruction experience
  • Broad knowledge of broad knowledge of databases and search strategies

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional experience in an academic library

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Ability to teach students how to effectively develop search strategies, access, evaluate, and use information resources.
  • Familiarity using research assistance in-person, via chat reference, 
  • Promotes the development of information literacy skills in interactions with library users.
  • Knowledge of, and skills in, using information resources in all formats to effectively assist library users with their research needs.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to provide excellent customer service both in-person and virtually.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and contribute to the achievement of common goals.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and library initiatives.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic work environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
