The Life Alliance Organ Recovery Agency Life Alliance Organ Recovery Agency | LAORA Miami, FL at the University of Miami/UHealth is currently seeking a full time OPO Resource Triage Coordinator to work in Miami, FL. This position is responsible for enhancing the mission of LAORA by responding to, and triaging organ referrals so the appropriate Life Alliance Organ Recovery (LAORA) staff can be dispatched to facilitate the donation process.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Responds to organ donor referrals, evaluating the referral by phone, engaging the LAORA Medical Director and hospital team for the implementation of guidelines for care/catastrophic head injury orders, supporting and evaluating family needs, identifying resources needed for the referral and triaging the referral to the appropriate staff member.
2. In conjunction with the LAORA Medical Director and/or appropriate staff, determines medical suitability of potential organ donors and utilizes appropriate resources to achieve this.
3. Provides consistent and timely service to hospitals, donor families, and other transplant personnel in all potential donor situations in accordance with policies and procedures.
4. Assists staff in identifying issues related to the donation process, and in collaboration, creates a plan of action.
5. Provides coordination of onsite staff for organ donors and referral activity.
6. Conducts initial risk management assessment.
7. Provides effective feedback to staff during the course of a call day, and if appropriate, follows up with staff’s manager/supervisor.
8. Activates the occurrence reporting system and follows up as necessary. The RTC may implement the occurrence alone or in conjunction with managers/supervisors.
9. The RTC may also be assigned duties as determined by management, developing, implementing and monitoring policies, procedures strategies, and action plans related to the procurement and utilization of organs for transplantation, medical research, and education
10. Ability to respond to a referral and or donor with an onsite presence in times of high activity.
11. Ability to moderate huddles associated with cases
12. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
Certification and Licensing:
FL registered nurse license or certification as a Physician Assistant, or allied health field preferred.
LAORA requires the RTC to maintain a valid FL driver’s license and current vehicle insurance based on FL minimum insurance coverage standards.
Must optain CTPC certification within 1 year of hire.
Experience:
Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
Department Specific Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in health science or biologic sciences or healthcare profession or an equivalent degree in an allied health field, i.e., EMT/P or Respiratory Therapist.
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
