Under the supervision of the Manager of Ophthalmic Imaging or Ultrasonography. The Ophthalmic Imaging Specialist is responsible for providing a wide range of imaging services for all the subspecialties at the Kellogg Eye Center. This role works closely with the imaging team, physicians, fellows and residents to provide exceptional patient care and imaging. Performs ophthalmic imaging procedures for use by physicians in the documentation and diagnosis of eye conditions.
- Performs fundus photography, Optical Coherence Tomography (anterior and posterior), external photography, specular microscopy slit lamp biomicroscopy, gonio, pre-op, OR imaging, fluorescein and ICG angiography or
- A-scans, orbital ultrasound, quantify intraocular tumors, prepares ultrasound reports on patients with eye conditions.
- Injects patients with fluorescein and/or indocyanine green dyes.
- Instructs patients on proper positioning during the procedures
- Submitting images for Scientific Exhibition
- Obtains or has certification as Certified as Optical Coherence Tomographer Certification (OCT-C) or Diagnostic Ophthalmic Sonographer (CDOS)
- Explains special requirements for imaging and is responsible for the safety, mental and physical comfort of the patient
- Interprets diagnostic images and reports for quality and clinical accuracy
- May attend educational conferences meetings domestically
- Identify equipment malfunction and report description of problem to technical support personnel
- Perform Lenstar / Pentacam / Visual Field testing
- Order and replenish supplies and medications in testing rooms as needed
- Assist in cleaning and disinfecting exam chairs, working surfaces, and other various clinic support as directed by the Supervisor and/or Clinic Lead.

Associate and Intermediate Requirements:
- Associates degree in Photography, Imaging, Life Sciences or similar field or equivalent experience
- Excellent computer skills; proficient in data entry and proficiency in Microsoft Office is essential
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing to varying audiences throughout the institution and internationally
- Ability to develop relationships and rapport with patients, physicians, and varying audiences
- Provide exceptional patient service
- Respectful and compassionate attitude
- Able to maintain confidentiality and follow all guidelines for documentation
- Familiarity with ophthalmic imaging equipment
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and coordinate various activities including patient testing according to schedule
- Ability to work with compassion with visually impaired, deaf-blind and multi-disabled patients is essential
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong ability to work independently, and as part of a team
- Comfortable with hands on patient care and testing
Intermediate Requirements:
- Minimum of 3 years of ophthalmic imaging experience
- Optical Coherence Tomographer-Certified (OCT-C) through the Ophthalmic Photographers' Society (OPS) Board of Certification or Certified Diagnostic Ophthalmic Sonographer (CDOS) through the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology is required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- This position requires moderate standing/walking, as well as lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring
of patients. - Comfortable with hands on patient care and testing
- Experience in field of ophthalmology, ophthalmic imaging is a plus
- Basic knowledge of the eye anatomy and physiology
- Electronic Medical Record experience
- Prior experience training others
This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
