Operations Manager, School of Art
George Mason University’s School of Art seeks qualified candidates for the Operations Manager position. The primary purpose of this position is to supervise and coordinate the administrative activities of the School of Art and provide operational support to the School of Art Director, Associate Director, and Assistant Director.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain the appointment schedules of the Director, Associate Director, and Assistant Director of School of Art;
  • Facilitate departmental purchasing for administrative needs, utilizing a university purchase card for small dollar purchases, and coordinating with CVPA Finance for their execution of large dollar purchases on the unit’s behalf;
  • Monthly budget review to identify discrepancies and ensure appropriate action is taken to amend the transactional level detail where warranted;
  • Maintain departmental faculty files and work with the units holding the files of record for full-time and part-time employees (e.g. Provost Office, CVPA Faculty Affairs, CVPA Finance);
  • Maintain and regularly update the School of Art website;
  • Collaborate with the Director to prepare the School of Art Academic calendar, along with the university calendar system (25Live);
  • Conduct internal and external assessments;
  • Facilitate School of Art faculty and visiting artist travel, following established processes/procedures;
  • Manage student scholarship data at the departmental level, ensuring timely and correct data is shared with CVPA Student Services for annual scholarship disbursement;
  • Liaise with CVPA Finance for HR/Payroll processing needs to facilitate special payments to employees, wages assignments, etc.;
  • Act as liaison with CVPA Finance & Administration and providing needed information to those departments;
  • Oversee and implement the broad spectrum of administration of the School of Art’s support functions: interface with CVPA Deans’ Offices, outreach and operations;
  • Supervise front office operations and staff; and
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of the School of Art.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field of study OR equivalent (at least 3+ years preferred) experience working in higher education;
  • Comprehension of the critical value of following university policies and practices without exception;
  • Works with minimal supervision; must be self-motivated and be able to motivate others;
  • The ability to assign, oversee, and supervise administrative staff;
  • Must have ability to meet multiple deadlines while working with constant interruptions;
  • Capable of prioritizing work and adapting to a wide variety of assignments; and
  • Organizational and problem-solving skills, and attention to detail/accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years’ experience working in a higher education administration setting is preferred.
