The Watson College of Education Office of Academic Affairs, Program Support, and Student Success is committed to supporting the College’s mission to develop knowledgeable and proficient education professionals dedicated to improving schools and society. Academic Affairs, Program Support, and Student Success (APS) consists of four separate but integrated units: Assessment, Accreditation and Data Operations (AADO); Educational Technology (ETU); Recruitment; and Student Advising. Our teams meet the needs of the WCE faculty, staff, and public-school partners by facilitating interactions, providing informational resources, supporting academic program functions, and implementing processes to navigate institutional policies and procedures. APS serves both graduate and undergraduate students. Students’ needs are met through assistance with admissions, academic advising, scholarships, and navigating the complex institutional and professional structures associated with education broadly.

Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The APS Operations Coordinator will assume primary responsibility for the administration, coordination, management, and completion of projects and procedures related to Academic Affairs Operations. These processes and procedures include, but are not limited to:
  • Curriculum processes and approval
  • Academic program assessment
  • Academic course scheduling
  • Student retention and progression – including college admissions processes and scholarship management; and/or
  • Other Academic processes and procedures critical for ensuring success of our academic programs and our students

This position will collaborate with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Program Support, and Student Success, WCE directors, faculty, and departmental administrators to:
  • Maintain an academic affairs operations calendar
  • Ensure timely and compliant completion of various academic affairs recurring projects
  • Develop and maintain an academic affairs policies and procedures manual
  • Maintain academic affairs records including student data files
  • Ensure compliance with NC State Laws, NC State Board of Education Policy, and UNC System requirements for reporting
  • Generate academic affairs reports as needed

The APS Operations Coordinator serves as the primary point of contact for process and procedural issues related to academic affairs operations and therefore must be able to maintain positive relationships to ensure excellent service, effective and efficient workflow, successful and timely completion of tasks, and that WCE maintains a positive image within the university academic community.
To accomplish this work, this position will supervise staff positions who are responsible for a range of tasks and processes related to academic affairs operations, as well as, the completion of the various administrative duties. As a member of the APS Academic Affairs leadership team within the college, this individual will be asked to collaborate and interface with other members of that team on a regular basis to ensure that college operational needs are met and the specific needs of academic affairs operations are well represented.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Preferred education, professional skills and experience
  • Experience in project management, supervision, and public relations
  • Fundamental knowledge and understanding of organizational structures
  • Working knowledge of office practices and methods
  • Excellent oral, written, and communication skills i.e. the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and through written correspondence, as well as in communicating with individuals in one-on-one situations
  • Motivation and ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision
  • Ability to direct a wide range of tasks with specific expectations and deadlines and make substantive decisions quickly
  • Willingness to learn and use various office technologies and university systems
