Brief Position Overview
The Operations & Equipment Coordinator helps to provide daily oversight and maintenance coordination for all indoor and outdoor facilities related to the department of Campus Recreation and the new Student Wellness Center (SWC), a 185,000 square foot facility slated to open in 2024. The new facility will enhance the integrated and holistic model of student health and wellness at MSU. Functional departments in the Student Wellness Center include Counseling & Psychological Services , Medical Services , Dental Services, Office of Health Advancement and Campus Recreation.
Additional facilities of oversight include the Outdoor Recreation Center, and Lambert turf and grass fields.
The Coordinator will help the Associate Director of Operations with the development and implementation of policies, maintaining all facility fitness equipment, helping to create standard operating procedures, creating preventive maintenance schedules/tracking systems for Wellness Center equipment, and adhere to risk management and safety practices.
This position will continually maintain a collaborative partnership with MSU Facilities & the Office of Sports Facilities.
This position will report within Campus Recreation and serve areas within Student Wellness. Campus Recreation encourages personal development, enhances academic productivity, and enriches well-being for students and the MSU Community. Campus Rec is comprised of Fitness Programs, Competitive Sports, Outdoor Recreation, Aquatics, Youth Programs, Activity Classes (ACT), Member Services, Facilities & Operations.

General Statement
The Operations & Equipment Coordinator helps to provide daily oversight and maintenance coordination for all indoor and outdoor facilities related to the department of Campus Recreation and the new Student Wellness Center (SWC), a 185,000 square foot facility slated to open spring 2024. The new facility will enhance the integrated and holistic model of student health and wellness at MSU. Additional facilities of oversight include the Outdoor Recreation Center, turf and grass fields and associated support buildings.
The Coordinator will help the Associate Director Operations with the development and implementation of policies, maintaining all facility fitness equipment, helping to create standard operating procedures, creating preventive maintenance schedules/tracking systems for Wellness Center equipment, and adhere to risk management and safety practices. This position will continually maintain a collaborative partnership with MSU Facilities & the Office of Sports Facilities.
The successful candidate will have a commitment to student development and eagerness to build a sustainable infrastructure.
Duties and Responsibilities
Facility Management:
  • Perform and ensure all fitness equipment preventative maintenance is completed
  • Assist with all facility scheduling including indoor and outdoor spaces
  • Assist with all special event set-up
  • Help oversee preventative maintenance plan for all equipment
  • Operate building equipment in support of maintaining facilities: turf field snowplow tractor, golf carts, etc.
  • Maintain pool chemistry balance and sanitation
  • Maintain inventory and order pool chemicals
  • Maintain a collaborative and participatory relationship with Montana State University Facilities & Operations and Auxiliary areas.

Student Supervision and Development:
  • Hire, train, mentor and manage student operations and maintenance team.
  • Contribute to department and Student Wellness enterprise wide, common initiatives, i.e. student leadership training, on-boarding processes, staff education, connection and engagement.

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Demonstrated professional experience working in facility management, and/or maintenance.

  • Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Professional experience in recreation management, facility operations and event management.
  • Professional experience supervising and leading staff.
  • Professional experience with facility scheduling and related operational software such as Fusion.
  • Experience maintaining fitness equipment and/or aquatics facilities.
  • Certified Pool operator.

    • Demonstrated verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
    • Ability to present information and ideas in a relatable and impactful manner.
    • Capable of creating and implementing an organized and efficient facility operations plan.
    • Proficient knowledge of Fusion and project management tools such as Connect2, Trello, Teams or other productivity tracking methods.
    • Ability and interest in creating and providing student development and learning opportunities
    • Ability to take direction, contribute to team discussion and work independently with strong attention to detail.
    • Ability to work cooperatively and professionally with students, staff, and faculty from all levels of the university.
    • Eager to be a part of opening the Student Wellness Center and creating infrastructure, associated systems, strategies, and assets that contribute to the bold new vision for Student Wellbeing at MSU.
