Compensation:
Pay Range: $47,665 - $77,455/year

DUTIES:

To monitor and control one or more computer systems through operation of the central console and on-line terminals. To operate auxiliary equipment directly associated with computer systems. To continuously observe the operation of the console panel, storage devices, printers, and action of the console printer to monitor the system and determine the point of equipment or program failure. To manipulate controls in accordance with standard procedures to rearrange the sequence of job steps to continue operations when problems or special circumstances arise. To confer with software systems engineers or applications programming personnel in the event errors require a change of instructions or sequence of operations. To maintain operating records such as machine performance and production reports. To assist in operations scheduling. To assume responsibilities of supervisor in their absence.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Interpersonal skills – works well with staff, internal and external customers, and vendors.

·         Problem solving skills – resolves issues per documentation or with assistance. Escalates to Supv-Operations-ENT when needed.

·         Maintains excellent relationships with internal and external customers, performs turnover to other shifts, works with Network, Server, Technical Support, Applications, Interface, and Infrastructure teams to maintain a high availability and disaster recovery capable computing environment.

·         Maintains vendor relationships related to maintenance, removal, delivery, installation of equipment and services.

·         Excellent writing, documentation, and communication skills – attention to detail with shift documentation and reporting. Communicates issues and events to leadership and other teams as needed in a timely manner. Contributes to and distributes the Operations “Daily Log” reporting.

·         Manages physical access to areas of responsibility including but not limited to, all UAB HSIS Data Centers. (Badges)

·         Manages remote access by vendors and contractors both physically and virtual or electronic access.

·         Provides support and training of less senior Operations Analysts.

·         Creates and maintains technical documentation, contributes to the data center inventory process.

·         Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

 

High School diploma or GED and three (3) years of related experience required. Work experience may substitute for education requirement. 

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITY:

·         Understanding of networked environments, physical connectivity, and troubleshooting.

o   Identifies and troubleshoots network related issues.

o   Installs new and removes old wiring as requested by Supv-Operations-ENT.

·         Understands hardware for Microsoft, UNIX, and Mainframe OS etc.

o   Able to navigate the above Operating systems during troubleshooting.

o   Assists in vendor driven upgrades when requested.

·         Server setup and maintenance

o   How to access physical and virtual server environments.

o   Effectively follows instruction on assembly/disassembly, setup and troubleshooting of server hardware.

o   Ability to troubleshoot and resolve hardware and operating system related problems.

o   Knows the basic components of a server setup in an integrated, network environment.

o   Can operate server lift.

o   Duties related to receiving hardware from/to multiple data center locations.

o   Assists with hardware replacement by vendor field engineers at multiple data center locations.

·         Infrastructure skills

o   Knowledge of Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) technology, uses, maintenance and troubleshooting – Liebert.

o   Knowledge of the function and operation of cooling equipment – Liebert, SiteScan, temperature and humidity.

o   Knowledge of Power Distribution Units (PDU) – determine power requirements of equipment by manufacturer specifications.

o   Familiar with data center floor plans and configurations for efficiency.

o   Monitors systems during generator testing on a monthly basis.

·         Monitoring and NOC skills

o   Monitors all UAB Medicine C1 applications and systems for hardware and software issues and resolves or reports to the appropriate team in a timely manner. (Cerner, HealthQuest, IDX, Lawson, Interface, Network, Security, Telemedicine etc.)

o   Monitors HVAC, Temperature and humidity using environmental monitoring software, performs datacenter walkthroughs and records results in Operations Check-off document.

o   Monitors Surveillance cameras as needed.

o   Nurse Call hardware maintenance and support on nursing units.

o   Telemedicine cart hardware maintenance and support for multiple locations (battery power monitoring).

o   Knowledge of Power Distribution Units (PDU) – determine power requirements of equipment by manufacturer specifications.

o   Familiar with data center floor plans and configurations for efficiency.

o   Monitors systems during generator testing on a monthly basis.
