The Operational Database Administrator supports shared services database management systems within the Ohio Technology Consortium (OH-TECH) and works in accordance with university policies, goals and objectives. This position reports to the Enterprise Architect.

The responsibilities of the Operational Database Administrator position include:

  • Provide support and maintenance of many database platforms (Oracle, MSSQL, MySQL) ensuring high availability and data integrity across all databases in the enterprise.

  • Proactively monitor the health of database systems utilizing management tools, log analysis, scheduled jobs and maintenance plans.

  • Support Security Compliance audits, Identity Access Management (IAM), Certificate and Oracle Wallet administration. 

  • Support full and incremental environment refreshes; methodologies will vary based on scope.

  • Perform annual backup and recovery exercises including failover.

  • Perform Oracle patching and upgrades.

  • Work with Senior DBA implementing best practices for proactive database health and maintenance plans along with updates to health frameworks.

  • Performance tuning.

  • Create, review and maintain documentation that will include: installation, maintenance, compliance, alerts and proactive monitoring.

  • Work individually as well as within a team and communicate with third-party vendors.

  • Position is required to be accessible via phone when not in the office and have internet access to perform certain work duties from home.

  • Experience/ability to work with confidential data.

OH-TECH, the technology and information division of the Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE), provides high-tech solutions for Ohio’s higher education institutions to catalyze innovation in the modern knowledge economy. The consortium functions as an umbrella organization for Ohio’s statewide technology infrastructure organizations: the Ohio Academic Resources Network (OARnet) , the Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC) and the Ohio Library and Information Network (OhioLINK) . The Shared Infrastructure team is responsible for managing collective information technology assets for ODHE, and its consortia responsibilities include Platform as a Service, Development as a Service, Infrastructure as a Service, LAN services, Desktop Support, Program Management, ServiceNow and Security.

Required Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • 2 years minimum experience in information technology, Oracle 19c and above, MSSQL - 2016 and above

  • Oracle Real Application Cluster

  • RMAN backup and recovery

  • Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM)

  • Must have data modeling tools experience

  • Experience in developing technical and user documentation

  • Ability to manage tasks without direct supervision and good communication skills

  • Ability to keep abreast of technological and database technology trends

Desired Education/Experience:

  • Oracle Multitenant Pluggable Database (PDB) Cloning

  • Linux operating system

  • Atlassian Jira and Confluence

  • Experience preparing and leading development staff training sessions on features/functionality of the database

  • Data Guard

  • MySQL

  • Oracle Flashback
