Job Summary

The Operating Room Service Coordinator, under the direction of the Registered Nurse, will participate as an integral member of the patient care team. Performs multiple support functions directed toward improved efficiencies in the OR and positive patient care outcomes.

All patient care team members are responsible to meet patient needs, demonstrating a willingness to learn new skills, and fostering a harmonious work environment in which high-quality patient care and customer service are consistently provided.

Team members promote a cooperative working relationship with each other, physicians, other disciplines, and the public by facilitating and enhancing communication, displaying honesty and respect, displaying sensitivity to cultural differences, and expressing and accepting feedback in a professional manner.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however, a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Department Description

The Moffitt Long Operating Room (OR) consists of 28 surgical suites. Our primary focus is tertiary/quaternary surgical care using team based staffing. Our complex surgery uses the most advanced technology, including hybrid suites and robotic surgery. Services include but are not limited to: General Surgery, Urology, Transplant, Cardiac, Vascular, Thoracic, OHNS, OMFS, Plastics, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, and Neurosurgery.


Required Qualifications

  • One year post-high school education or on-job training in related discipline
  • Strong knowledge of complex OR equipment including Microscopes, Lasers, and various computer systems
  • Knowledge of or ability to acquire knowledge of and practice basic aseptic technique when carrying out assignments
  • Ability to think critically and proactively to support the OR team
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task to support multiple surgeons and staff
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced complex environment
  • Ability to set up and operate some complex equipment including, but not limited to sterilizers, video systems, microscopes, various computer systems, etc
  • Ability to work within a team
  • Ability to satisfactorily perform job duties as defined in the job description
  • Ability to understand and communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing
  • Ability to organize work duties
  • Ability to move heavy equipment and boxes
  • Willingness to be taught/learn new skills
  • The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Health locations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years related OR experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
