Operating Engineer

 Operates, maintain and repair physical plant equipment as follows: Heating and ventilation systems, refrigeration and air-conditioning, plumbing maintenance, and installation. Performs water treatment and testing procedures, fire alarm system operation and testing, gas fired boiler operations and troubleshooting in emergencies. Maintains mechanical systems for optimum performance: Logs performance date, changes filters, re-pack valves and pumps, and meter reading. Provides and monitors water treatment for open and closed loop water systems. Performs necessary preventive maintenance to building and related systems and also make rounds to various mechanical rooms. May perform necessary maintenance and service requests to Resident rooms including but not limited to individual KY. A.C. units, plumbing and minor electrical requests. Perform necessary repairs and maintenance to production line equipment. Other duties as assigned. Monitors and operates building automation system hardware, software and sensors and components. Requires a Class A City of Pittsburgh Stationary Engineers License, Universal CFC Certification and a minimum of five years experience as a licensed stationary or operating engineer; a minimum of three years experience monitoring and operating building automation systems controlling a large and complex physical plant. Operator must have experience with computer based energy management systems and DDC control. Must be mobile around campus, be able to lift 50 pounds, crawl into confined spaces including manholes and utility tunnels as well as maneuver around small areas and be able to lift equipment and supplies. Must work shifts and join union.
The Operating Engineer is responsible for properly operating all mechanical systems; for performing selected preventive and corrective maintenance duties as directed; for monitoring and operating building automation system hardware, software, and sensors and components. The incumbent will be responsible for the operation, preventive and corrective maintenance for all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. This position requires a Class 2 City of Pittsburgh Stationary Engineers License, Universal CFC Certification, and a minimum of five years’ experience as a licensed stationary or operating engineer: a minimum of three years’ experience monitoring and operating building automation systems controlling a large and complex physical plant. The Operating Engineer must have experience with computer-based energy management systems and DDC control. Incumbent must be mobile around campus, be able to lift 50 pounds, crawl into confined spaces including manholes and utility tunnels, as well as maneuver around small areas and be able to lift equipment and supplies.
