Posting Summary
Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey is seeking an Operating Engineer III for the Facilities Department within the University Institutional Planning and Operations. 
 
Under the direction of the Plant Manager, maintains, operates and repairs the stationary steam boilers and auxiliary equipment in the New Brunswick/RBHS campus. 
 
Among the key duties of this position are the following: 
* Responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of boilers, motors, pumps, compressors, valves, and other auxiliary equipment. 
* Operates boilers and pressure vessels at maximum efficiency at all times, resulting in minimum energy consumption. 
* Periodically makes comprehensive tests, takes readings of fuel consumption pressure, draft conditions, temperatures, steam flow and other recordings. 
* Adds chemicals to treat steam, water, fuel in accordance with requirements prescribed. 
* Ensures compliance with all regulations. 
* Makes continual inspections of equipment and systems in area of responsibility and reports conditions to the Plant Manager and Senior Shift Supervisor.

Minimum Education and Experience
* A minimum of one (1) year of experience in the operation of steam, hot water boilers and auxiliary equipment as it relates to the boiler plant operation.
Certifications/Licenses
* A minimum blue seal is required for this position. 
* A valid driver’s license is required as well as taking the Rutgers Defensive Driving Course.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Knowledge of computerized monitoring systems and computerized work order systems.
Preferred Qualifications
* Chiller Plant experience. 
* Computer knowledge is CMMS and plant monitoring.
