POSITION SUMMARY:
The USF Department of Urology is searching for a Residency Trained Provider with a clinical interest in Stone Disease and General Urology to join as core faculty.  The provider would join a growing Department which has its flagship clinical site at Tampa General Hospital. This new recruit would be expected to provide the full service line in the management of patients with nephrolithiasis and general urology pathology.  The provider would work closely with our current staff members of subspecialists and with the local outreach community.
This is a full-time 12-month salaried faculty appointment open rank and carries with it attending staff privileges at Tampa General Hospital (TGH) and affiliated hospitals.  TGH is a level 1 trauma center that serves as a tertiary care facility serving south central and west Florida.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching:

  • Enhance current urology residency experiences by offering center as unique rotation focused on demonstrating multi-disciplinary care and experiences with specialists focused on care of stones
  • Support resident-driven research experience by discussing stone-specific disease cohort opportunities
  • Within five years, establish a Stone-fellowship training program

Research:

  • Establish stone-specific disease cohort that will serve as launching point for center-based scholarly work as well as promote use of data by other USF faculty interested in stone-related outcomes
  • Work with industry to develop and trial emerging technologies within center
  • Work with pharmaceutical and device collaborators on developing unique study protocols

QUALITY and SAFETY

  • Monitor, report and identify quality and safety gaps among stone patients on an ongoing basis

Administrative:

  • Marketing
  • With establishment of clinic, strategize within first fiscal year to determine realistic proportion of volume increase within a 1 yr., 3yr. and 5 yr. model
  • Determine current patient radius and volumes
  • Assess best-practice revenue models for clinic to consider methods to enhance billing and collection of revenues within USF and TGH care models
  • Discuss alternate revenue strategies including but not limited to nutraceuticals, alternate diagnostics and other to maximize clinical revenue
  • Philanthropic funding through TGH foundation
  • NIDDK or other grants
  • More multidisciplinary clinics helps US News and World report rankings

Clinical:

  • Establish multi-disciplinary clinic that integrates care between urology, nephrology (Elias Doumit), and nutrition/dietician to offer comprehensive and innovative care to stone patients.
  • Dedicate clinical efforts to improving medical and surgical outcomes for stone patients with a focus on prevention.
  • Ease of referral from TGH ER, Brandon Healthplex and within patient radius
  • Engage in broad CME sessions within community to promote center and faculty as thought leaders in the community and region

Essential Job Duties:

  • Responsible to a Chair or other appropriate higher-level administrator of a State university.

  • May represent the university, college/school, or department.


POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
Must have a medical degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service. Must hold or be eligible for a full unrestricted Florida medical license. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor.
PREFERRED:
Candidate must have completed residency in Urology and have special focus in urological surgical procedures related to nephrolithiasis. Candidate should either have American Board of Urology certification or be eligible for certification.
