Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The mission of the University of North Carolina (UNC) School of Nursing is to enhance and improve the health and well-being of the people of North Carolina and the nation, and, as relevant and appropriate, the people of other nations, through its programs of education, research, and scholarship, and through clinical practice and community service. The UNC School of Nursing has been the leader in nursing education in North Carolina throughout its history. Established in 1950, it was the first school of nursing in North Carolina to offer a four-year baccalaureate nursing degree program, followed by the first master’s degree program, the first continuing education program for nurses, the first doctoral program, and the first accelerated BSN option to students with college degrees. Today, the school is renowned for its academic programs, research, and commitment to clinical and community service within state, national, and global communities.

Position Summary
This opening presents an exceptional opportunity to join a public, research-intensive school of nursing with a consistent track record of funding from NIH, HRSA, and private sources. UNC School of Nursing seeks accomplished individuals to join our dynamic team as an Associate Professor or Professor. We are particularly interested in recruiting faculty whose program of research demonstrates innovation and interdisciplinary collaborations and aligns with our research themes. Ideally, applicants will complement and strengthen our School’s current areas of research excellence that focus on health systems, oncology, biobehavioral research, data science, and multi-level determinants of health. To help us train the next generation of nursing leaders and scientists, applicants should demonstrate a record of teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Applicants should also demonstrate a record of successfully mentoring students at a level appropriate to career stage. We will consider applicants at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor as well as the rank of Assistant Professor for individuals with exceptional publication and funding portfolios.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
PhD or equivalent research doctorate
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
An established program of research, scholarly productivity, national reputation, and demonstrated interdisciplinary collaborations appropriate to the applicant’s career stage. A record of sustained external research funding.
A demonstrated record of excellence in mentoring and teaching appropriate to the applicant’s career stage.
