About the Opportunity

The School of Architecture in the College of Arts, Media, and Design invites nominations for a full-time non-tenure track Teaching Professor in Architecture at the rank of Assistant or Associate. This position will be fully located at Mills College at Northeastern University, Oakland, California. We seek an innovative colleague eager to contribute to the growth and creative evolution of our architecture program.

Responsibilities

The full-time faculty member will be expected to be qualified to teach architectural design studios and workshops at multiple levels, from introductory to advanced. In the case of introductory design studio instruction, the faculty member will coordinate with colleagues in Boston to ensure learning objectives and skills imparted to students allow their smooth transition between campuses. In the case of advanced studios and workshops, the faculty member will build upon their rich research or creative professional practice, as well as their local and/or global experiences. This position will entail teaching two or three courses per fall and spring semesters (4-6 courses per academic year). Class formats may range between design studios, workshop courses, seminars and/or lectures. In addition to teaching, the faculty member will be expected to develop, maintain, and coordinate curricular initiatives, cultivate the community of design on campus, as well as collaborate and liaise with Boston operations as needed. Rank as an Assistant or Associate teaching professor will be assessed in consideration of the candidate’s previous teaching experience and creative practice and/or research experience. In addition to teaching, all full-time faculty are expected to contribute to the cultural life and function of the program through service commitments on committees, special projects, and student advising and engagement activities. These service roles are determined based on alignments with candidates’ past experiences and profiles in teaching research and creative practice.

Qualifications

Candidates must have a terminal degree in the anticipated focus areas of teaching (typically PhD's for Architectural and Landscape Architecture historians, and Masters degrees for design, professional practice, and building technology faculty). Candidates are normally expected to teach at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Candidates with a well-developed research agenda that will inform and advance current trends in the field through creative production, experimentation, collaboration, exhibition and publication will be given preference for the position.

The expected hiring range for Assistant Teaching Professor is USD $73,260 to USD $89,540, based upon the position’s scope and responsibilities. The expected hiring range for Associate Teaching Professor is USD $80,585 to USD $98,500 based upon the position’s scope and responsibilities.
