Job Summary 

The Department of Communication invites applications for a full-time (open rank) Teaching Professor in digital communication to start in September 2024, rank will depend on the finalist's qualifications and experience.  Expertise is required in the areas of strategic digital communication, digital publishing, and social media management. Those with additional teaching specialties in the fields of social media/big data analytics, data visualization and/or in the use of artificial intelligence in media and communication professions are especially encouraged to apply. Teaching duties are at the undergraduate and graduate level and include Strategic Social Media Communication & Management; Digital Publishing; Media Analytics/Data Visualization; Generative AI in Communication Professions, next to more general courses the department offers.

The Department of Communication has an Undergraduate program in Communication, a Professional Master program in Strategic and Digital Communication and a Master and Ph.D. program in Communication, Culture and Media. Students learn through hands-on experiences gained in and outside of the classroom. With faculty members who are equally passionate about teaching - face-to-face and online - and about cutting-edge research, the department is a leader in communication education, guiding the design of new curricular approaches to enhance student learning. The curriculum offers focus and flexibility, allowing students to define their path to success. The Department develops research in the areas of Public Relations, Journalism, Civil Society and the Political, Popular Communication and Consumer Culture, and Information and Communication Technology. The Department is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all its structures and endeavors.

Essential Functions 

  • Teaching – Drexel follows the quarter system. Teaching 4-4-4 three-credit courses both face-to-face and remote/online in the undergraduate and graduate communication programs and as part of service courses offered within the department.
  • Take part in continued pedagogical development with an eye on excellence in teaching effectiveness, including evidence of pedagogical innovation or experimentation.
  • Fostering a diverse and inclusive learning community through engagement in relevant activities promoting equity, inclusion, and diversity.
  • Maintain and expand the Department’s relationships with the professional world of strategic and digital communication, including public relations,
  • Staying up to date on research and professional practices in the areas outlined above and incorporate these into your teaching.
  • Be an active and engaged member of the Department.
  • Provide service to the Department, College and University

Required Qualifications 

  • Masters Degree in Communication, Media Studies or related field.
  • Minimum of a 3-5 years of experience.
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching.
  • Must be legally able to work in the United States.
  • Able to start Fall 2024.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • A Ph.D in communication, Media Studies or related field and several years of relevant professional experience.
  • Social media/big data analytical skills
  • Connections to key industry leaders
  • Experience in teaching and working with a diverse student population.

Additional Information 

This is a full-time Faculty position classified as Exempt. The salary offered is based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
