About the Department
The Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) at North Carolina State University is recognized as one of the premier national and international academic and research programs. The Department contains 24 tenure/tenure-track faculty members, 2 teaching faculty and 4 research staff, 15 postdoctoral research scholars, and about 300 graduate and undergraduate students.
The faculty perform cutting-edge research, teach and provide international leadership in diverse areas of materials research, including electronic, dielectric, optical, magnetic, and structural materials, metallurgy, nanoscience/nanotechnology, soft matter, biological materials, structural characterization, and computational materials.
Essential Job Duties
The Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) at North Carolina State University seeks applications/nominations for new faculty at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor (tenure/tenure-track).
The Department of Materials Science and Engineering at North Carolina State University is seeking to hire outstanding individuals in open rank tenured/tenure-track faculty in all areas of materials science and engineering, although candidates working in areas related to (1) soft, polymeric and sustainable materials, and (2) advanced electron microscopy, with the application of Machine Learning to both, are preferred.
The successful candidate will be expected to establish a funded, independent research program as well as to collaborate with other researchers at NC State.
The Candidate will be expected to teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Other Responsibilities
There may be additional administrative duties assigned, dependent upon candidate’s qualifications

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Qualified candidates must hold a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering, or in a related science or engineering discipline at the time of appointment.
Other Required Qualifications
  • Successful candidates will have achieved or be on a trajectory for international prominence, and senior candidates will have demonstrated vision and skills in leading collaborative, multidisciplinary research efforts.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering creative teaching and instructional methods to enhance our undergraduate and graduate curricula.
  • Ability to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels in Materials Science and Engineering.
  • Senior candidates must have clear international standing, an exceptional record of publishing and external funding, and a demonstrated record of scientific excellence and leadership.
