The Department of Computer Science (CS) in the College of Engineering and Applied Science (EAS) at University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) invites applications for an open rank research assistant/post-doctoral associate position in the area of program analysis and compiler optimization. Title and compensation will be determined by the selected candidate’s qualifications. A successful applicant will possess strong abilities/skills in the following areas.

  • Independent problem solving, specifically the ability to efficiently navigate an unfamiliar problem space with minimal supervision, the ability to seek and integrate useful help and feedback, and the ability to incrementally chip away a hard problem.
  • Strong programming/software development, specifically the ability to design and implement advanced data structures and algorithms to solve problems efficiently.
  • Passion/desire for learning: the candidate is encouraged and will continue to learn after being hired and working on the job, including continue to take classes as needed at UCCS.
  • Solid foundation in Computer Science and knowledge in the areas of programming languages and compilers. Past experiences in developing program analysis and compiler projects are desired but not required.
  • Strong communication skills, including verbal and writing skills, are desired.

The hired candidate will have the opportunity to conduct meaningful and deep research while on the job. The candidate will also have the opportunity to further pursue a Ph.D degree with UCCS, but this is not required.

This position has been determined to be exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

What We Offer: 

Salary Range: Generally starting at $45,000 - $60,000.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

This position is dependent on the availability of external grant funding. Funding is currently expected to last until September 30, 2022.

Tentative Search Timeline: 

  • The potential dates for interviews with the search committee will be the week of September 6, 2021.
  • The potential dates for interviews with the supervisor and appointing authority will be the week of September 13, 2021.
  • The potential employee start date is October 1, 2021.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Professional Research Assistant:

  • BS in computer science, electrical or computer engineering, or related discipline

Senior Research Assistant:

  • MS in computer science, electrical or computer engineering or related discipline

               OR

  • BS in the required field plus four years of relevant research experience.

Post-Doctoral Associate:

  • PhD in computer science, electrical or computer engineering or related discipline

Physical Requirements: 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to move. Employee is occasionally required to have long periods of sitting, moderate bending, moderate energy requirements, and fine motor skills.The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
