Job Overview

The Department of Physics at the University of Cincinnati invites applications for a tenured or tenure-track faculty position in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics (rank commensurate with credentials). The position is part of a planned series of hires in both theoretical and experimental areas to build a research group focused on the design, synthesis and analysis of advanced materials, quantum materials, topological effects and/or strong correlations. We intend to foster collaborations across the Colleges of Arts and Sciences and Engineering at the interface of Physics, Materials and Technology.  Our faculty benefit from the geographic proximity of the University of Cincinnati to two major national laboratories: the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the Argonne National Laboratory. The anticipated starting date for this position is August 2022.


Essential Functions

The successful candidate is expected to establish an independent, vigorous, externally funded research program, be an excellent mentor of graduate students, and teach effectively at the graduate or undergraduate level. Additional duties include serving on departmental, college or university committees and helping foster the educational, research and service missions of the department and broader university. 


Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have a Ph.D. and postdoctoral experience in Condensed Matter Physics or a closely related area.  Applicants should exhibit a record of substantial research accomplishments, evidenced by a strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals. Applicants must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, demonstrate the potential to develop into an effective educator, be committed to student success, and service to the profession. Applicants should show the ability to work and collaborate with individuals from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds. 

 

Candidates for tenured appointments should demonstrate intellectual leadership and impact on the field, and potentially significant contributions to the department, University of Cincinnati and the wider scholarly community.
