Nurse Practitioner - UVA - Stuarts Draft Family Practice

The incumbent will assist in medical care of patients in the assigned department. The incumbent will facilitate the physician’s ability to manage the physician’s patient panel, provide patient appointments at an earlier date, and respond to patient medical questions in a timely manner. She/he practices independently according to established protocols and in collaboration with physicians, delivers quality healthcare across the lifespan.

  • Attends the assigned department to assist in follow-up evaluation of patients
  • Coordinates with physicians and nursing staff of related disciplines to ensure integrated patient care
  • Attends interdisciplinary team meetings when possible
  • Communicates with referring physicians and their offices regarding patient problems/progress
  • Responds to telephone inquiries of patients and provides counseling and instruction regarding patient problems
  • Orders medications as specified by the NP/PA license and as directed by the supervising physician
  • Provides follow up health maintenance care including the appropriate adjustment of patients’ medications in accordance with established protocols or in response to specific instructions from the supervising physician
  • Prepares and dictates summaries of patients’ initial evaluations and follow up care.  Participates in appropriate continuing medical education
  • Responds to telephone inquiries from patients.  Maintains contact with patients and physicians.  Communicates with referring physicians and their offices regarding patient problems
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Nurse Practitioner Degree
​Experience:
2-3 years of experience with clinical trials nursing, and have an understanding of clinical trial protocol design, patient accrual and randomization, and reporting of adverse events.
Licensure:
The incumbent must be a nurse practitioner who is licensed to practice in Virginia as a NP.
Skills:
Experience utilizing a personal computer and computerized scheduling.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently traveling/bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.


COVID Vaccination Requirement
 

The University of Virginia expects all current and new employees (UVA Health System and Academic), to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
