The Indiana University School of Public Health-Bloomington (SPH-B) invites applications for non-tenure-track (lecturer or clinical professor) faculty position in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics. The SPH-B seeks individuals who will contribute scientific excellence through teaching and service in epidemiological methods and public health practice and surveillance, and other areas of education and service that promote health and improved responses to epidemics. These 10-month appointments would ideally start August 1, 2024. The School of Public Health-Bloomington is located on the flagship campus of Indiana University and is comprised of over 200 faculty across five departments. Continuing the momentum of hiring over 40 outstanding faculty over the last two years, the SPH-B is launching another wave of faculty recruitment. The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics offers an undergraduate degree in epidemiology, a Master of Public Health degree in epidemiology, a Master's degree in biostatistics, a Ph.D. program in epidemiology and a Ph.D. in biostatistics. The department has approximately 100 students enrolled in its BSPH program in Epidemiology (which is one of only three CEPH-accredited BSPH programs in Epidemiology in the US), and approximately 100 other students enrolled across its residential and online graduate programs. A part of the flagship campus of Indiana University located in Bloomington, Indiana, the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics maintains strong connections to other departments in the School of Public Health and other schools across Indiana University.

Responsibilities: Non-Tenure track (lecturer or clinical professor) faculty in the Epidemiology and Biostatistics are expected to substantially contribute to the overall academic excellence of the department by teaching and (for clinical faculty) contributing to service internally to the department, school and university, and externally to the profession and/or the community. Evidence of a research portfolio in the applicant's areas of teaching and service, as well as experience mentoring students at the undergraduate and/or graduate level, is also preferrable but not required. Areas of special interest for teaching and service include, but are not limited to: clinical trials, observational studies, and other public health research methods for applications in infectious disease, nutrition, obesity, and other health outcomes. These positions are located on the campus of Indiana University, Bloomington (IUB) in Bloomington, Indiana, and successful candidates are expected to work on the IUB campus to allow full engagement with the department, school, campus, and community. Indiana University bases its tenure and promotion recommendations upon performance in three areas including research, teaching, and service. All individuals hired through this initiative are expected to excel in teaching; clinical faculty will also contribute to service.
Qualifications: Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, or a closely related field from an accredited educational institution. A firm commitment to the role of diversity in all aspects of research, education and service is essential. Candidates must have teaching experience, preferably at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Good interpersonal skills, effective communication skills, and the ability to work cooperatively and congenially within a diverse faculty are required. Leadership skills and vision for enhancing the academic components of an interdisciplinary department are essential.
