About the Department | The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at North Carolina State University is dedicated to excellence in teaching, research, and public outreach. The department offers undergraduate degrees in anthropology, sociology, and criminology, and graduate degrees in anthropology (MA) and sociology (MA, PhD). The Department of Sociology and Anthropology is part of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHASS). The Department enrolls about 550 undergraduate majors and provides ca. 25,000 semester credit hours of undergraduate instruction each academic year. In addition, the Department has approximately 40 Masters students and 50 Ph.D. students during a typical year. Essential Job Duties | The Department of Sociology and Anthropology invites applications for part-time professional track faculty instructors in both sociology and anthropology. Instructors are responsible for the coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom instruction and related activities. Each instructor prepares their own syllabi for the class(es) that they teach. Professional track faculty appointments are one-semester or one-year, with the possibility of renewal. Candidates will be hired as Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor based on credentials and qualifications. If hired at the Assistant Teaching Professor level, additional duties will be required in addition to the primary teaching responsibilities. Successful candidates will teach 1-3 courses in one of the following areas: Sociology, Criminology, or Anthropology (cultural, archaeological, biological, or linguistic anthropology). Applications are kept through December of each year in case openings arise in subsequent semesters. The position announcements are typically renewed each year. |
